Disarm Evil by Ritu Vedi

Incredible story with excellent world building. Without any spoilers, I thoroughly enjoyed following the characters as they explored what I found to be a very compelling and unique conflict. The air of religious trauma mixed with epic fantasy with absolutely delectable. Amazing debut work, super excited to see what else this author produces.

Bonus: very inclusive and diverse cast of characters without desperately trying to prove a point. Just a complex story illustrated by a lovely use of complex characters. Absolutely loved this book.

Alicia's review
Disarm Evil by Ritu Vedi is a very interesting fantasy novel. It takes place in a queer normative world that doesn't use gendered pronouns and is full of floating islands and airships.
The writing style is unique and it did take me a few chapters to really immerse myself into the story. Once I wrapped my head around everything, I really enjoyed the experience. This story takes what you would normally expect in a fantasy book and turns it into something new and interesting. The main character, Dima, has to really grapple with religion and privilege in an unexpected way.
I really loved the surrounding cast of characters (one is a moth which was really fun!). I also think this book tackles a lot of interesting more philosophical questions. Even though this is a fantasy world, I think most people will find it relatable in some way.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something new and fresh because I can pretty much guarantee that you haven't read something exactly like this before!

Who else is buying books that may possibly be banned/restricted due to upcoming fascist regime.? Picked up a few more copies of obvious ones like 1984 and The Communist manifesto. #booksky #commiesky #leftistbooks
