The municipality in a statement says the upgrade will create opportunities for local entrepreneurs. “This ambitious initiative demonstrates our commitment to enhancing facilities and creating better experiences for everyone visiting the Mole,” it says. General manager of engineering and planning services Clarence McClune says the upgrade will enhance the safety of the area. “This is to complement the decision that was taken by the council to better regulate this area with the interaction of swimmers as well as boat activities. “With the tower there will be a boom facility or boom access, and that will also create a little bit of control with the movement of vehicles and boats into the Mole area,” he says. The upgrade will include the construction of a wooden tower styled after a lighthouse, which will house four toilets, a security service and a sea rescue lookout.
