Anyone who has endured the end of a relationship can relate to “PACTUM FRACTUS” (Broken Agreement), a 24” x 24” oil on panel from my Latin Series. Connecting to the elephant as a memory symbol (“an elephant never forgets”), these salt and pepper shakers from my childhood have turned their backs against each other while the love symbol of the iris (both short lived but perennial) hovers between them. One ring is still worn in love while the other has been cast aside, visually telling the story of the broken agreement. Trompe l’oeil tears fall in the turbulent sky which help frame the background as either a sunset (a final ending) or a sunrise (a new beginning).
