Is This It? On an innocuous night in the Royal Castle of Pentagram City, the Morningstars are finishing their dinner together. Their young daughter, Charlotte-also known as 'Charlie'— has already been escorted to bed by a pair of faithful, dragon butlers. As Queen Morningstar, Lilith, picks at the remainder of her dinner, she enthusiastically concludes a story about her latest rally for 'A Sinner's Right to a More Equitable Afterlife!' "You should have seen the unity in the crowd, Lucifer! It was...a complete marvel, truly!" The Queen takes another bite and chuckles. "Ha, well, until Prick and Hatchet started a brawl, but you know how those two are." The King-Lucifer Morningstar —lifts his teacup for a drink, his eyes fixated on his phone's screen. He monotonously responds, "Well you know what I always say; I don't know why you try with them." The King glances up at his wife, taken aback by her synchronized echoing of his response. Queen Lilith doesn't lift her eyes to meet the King's, instead remaining focused on her plate. She says, through gritted teeth, "I am so sick of hearing that."
Lucifer sighs and returns his gaze to his phone. "Well, I don't know what you want to hear from me, Lili." "Gee, I don't know—it would be nice if you even pretended to give a shit, Lulu. Instead, I have to compete for your attention with a fucking phone!" Lilith's hair begins to defy physics, moving in sync with her rising anger. Lucifer closes his eyes slightly longer than a blink, furrows his brow, and magically dismisses his phone from his grasp. "Dear, I'm sorry, but it's just the same story every time. You gather a bunch of sinners together and ob no! A fight breaks out and ruins everything. And what are you left with? Just more sinners eager to cause more havoc. I mean, it's been 10,000 years, sweetheart! You'd think you'd learn to stop wasting your time." "That's what you think I'm doing? What I've been doing all these years? Just wasting my time?" "I don't see this town changing, do you?" Lilith scoffs in disbelief at her husband's arrogant tone. "Precisely." "You know, Lucifer, sometimes, I don't even know why I try with you." "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You judge these sinners like you're just sooo above it all but you're not! It's been 10,000 years, and what have you changed exactly?" "After everything we've been through, you can't honestly tell me I'm the same as those..sinners!" "No, you're not the same! At least they give a damn about my fucking cause!" "Eugh, dear, they're just taking advantage of your talents! You seriously think those souls go to your little rallies because they support you?" A silent beat. Lucifer knows he went too far. Lilith looks at him with seething anger. "Wow. Fuck you." "Th-that came out wrong but, c'mon honey, you can't possibly believe that they sincerely support you?" "What would you know? You're never there!" "Because for the hundred thousandth time, it is pointless, Lili!" Lucifer's horns erupt from his forehead, his eyes turn red in his frustration.
"I've seen you torture yourself for this cause since the beginning of humanity! I just—" Lucifer takes a deep breath, his horns retracting and his eyes returning to their usual yellow sclera, "I just want you to save yourself the hurt." Lilith stares at her husband, who seems miles away at their dining table. "Save myself the hurt? Lucifer, we've been together for 10,000 years and all you have done is burt. Am I supposed to just lock myself away like you have? Only going out to party and using all your power to provide gifts to your friends?" "That's not all I-" "Meanwhile, you remain surrounded by endless suffering and do nothing to stop it!" Lucifer rolls his eyes. Lilith, infuriated, drives her point home. "Is that the future you want our daughter to have?" "This has nothing to do with Charlie-" "This has everything to do with Charlie! She is the future! Hell's future! Our future! And you would resign her to an infinite life as a caged bird?" "Now hold on -"
For some reason, I wrote a #fanfic imagining #lucilili ‘s breakup and it made me sooo sad 😭💔 (just to be clear, I love lucilili. I think their relationship is soooo complex and I want to know everything that happened 💍😭)
