02.04.1944|Daniel Trocmé, French chemistry and physics teacher, head of a boarding school, one of the Righteous Among the Nations, died at the #Majdanek concentration camp. He was deported on 6 February. Together with his family and neighbours in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon they saved up to 5,000 Jews.

23.03.1942|Camp commandant Karl Otto Koch authorised the General Construction Plan. Upon its completion #Majdanek would cover over 500 hectares and have the capacity of keeping 150,000 prisoners simultaneously. As visible in the top right corner it was still a POW camp at that time.

23.03.1944|Désiré Georges perished in the #Majdanek concentration camp. He was a Belgian resistance member, who was arrested by the Germans on 13.10.1942. Désiré was transferred to Lublin from KL Sachsenhausen in March 1944.

On the night of 16-17.03.1944📷Paweł Dąbek and several other Polish men imprisoned at #Majdanek made a daring escape using white sheets to become invisible on the snow, crawling to the barbed wire fences, cutting them with stolen tools, and leaving the camp unnoticed.

06.03.1940|Polish woman Wiktoria Foltarz was arrested by the Germans in Toruń. In mid-April she was deported to #Ravensbrück. Later she was transferred to #Majdanek and registered as prisoner no. 3135. During the camp evacuation she was sent to Ravensbrück again in April 1944. She survived.

04.03.1944|Thanks to the appeal of the Polish Red Cross, Stanisław Nowakowski was released from #Majdanek. He was deported to KL Lublin on 5 December 1943. The release note was issued while Stanisław was lying ill in the camp infirmary📷 at field V. The Red Cross saved his life.

03.03.1881|Kazimierz Kryński was born. He was a doctor of medicine, Polish Army and Home Army soldier. The Soviet NKVD arrested him on 13.08.1944 and imprisoned him on #Majdanek grounds. Major Kryński was deported to the Ryazan Gulag on 23 August. Kazimierz survived and returned to Poland in 1947.

23.02.1943|The Germans arrested Marcin Gryta as a resistance member. He was detained at the Gestapo prison in the Lublin castle. In April he was taken to #Majdanek and registered as no. 7803. He managed to escape from a death march to #Auschwitz in July 1944 and survived the war.

17.02.1943|Anton Thumann became the prisoner camp commander (Schutzhaftlagerführer) at #Majdanek, taking one of the most important positions in the garrison hierarchy. In the survivors’ accounts he was described as one of the most merciless, brutal, and cruel SS-man in the camp.
