Last time we talked about how to draw lines, today let’s talk about how to erase them nicely!
Our old system use to let us delete whole lines at a time, but we wanted something better, so in this short we explain how we solved it!

Hello everyone!
Rain ☔️ (we’re adding it to the map)
Make a Game with us! [Part 34]
#gamedev #game #indie #indiedev #devlog #series #makeagamewithus #rain
And finally we catch up to current day development!
We begin to juice the map scene while adding in a bunch of QoL suggestions given to us from players of the demo (over 1000 of you! crazy!)
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
With the crafting scene already juiced, we turned our attention to combat! We started to add custom intros to notable creatures (bosses and mini-bosses), and special backgrounds and effects to notable places (dungeons, secret levels, etc)
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
Drawing patterns is a fun way to make potions, but to keep things spicy as you get further into the game we decided to add special augments that alter the drawing process.
These generally make things more challenging, especially as they combine with each other.
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
In this episode Matt showcased music he created to emphasise emotion during story scenes, something we found really important from Isle of Maligree's development.
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
Players clearing the cauldron of ingredients was a tricky subject during development. But thankfully after several different failed attempts we came up with using the drawing mechanic used in potions making to clear it. What do you think?
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
After a long time using the initial UI, we went back to the crafting scene and added as much 'Juice' and polish to it as we could! Small changes like this is what makes a game go from feeling just okay to feeling great!
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
In this episode we talked about how the music subtly changes based on locations you visit in a region. This feature helps us make the world feel more full, and give places a more memorable theme. Did you notice it at all in the demo?
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
This one is a bit silly but I really liked putting it together!
The episodes (slightly dramatized) story of us debating on whether we should keep the cauldron spoon in the game did well in several places, and after a poll we decided to keep it!
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
Remember hats? Well we asked people to give us some suggestions and in this episode we show which ones we liked the most!
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
With combat shaping up, we started designing creatures!
Each creature has a weakness of some sort, and we wanted to try make their designs hint at what that might be :)
#gamedev #makeagamewithus
Hats hats hats hats! We decided to add hats that you can discover wear! They are present in story scenes and I love them very much. I hope you do too! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
We show off some speedpaints of characters as well as their story. Small side tangent here- I love Blender, all of these shorts are made in blender (I'm sorry I know its cursed) but at this point they finally let me outline text and it was glorious. #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Matt continues his music development in this episode, and shows this really cool feature where the music changes around certain characters. You can really see this in todays demo when picking your characters in a quest. Try it out! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Matt begins cooking up some music! (which future episodes will begin to use) We also start using subtitles in our shorts which help with viewer retention. #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Finally at this point we finish our story planning, and break the game down into several acts. This helps us pace the game, and gives us a much better idea as to what we need to create. #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Lydia finally reworks the older potions into the much nicer looking new generation. Also notable at this point in development is we release our steam page and begin or quest for acquiring >2k wishlists. #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Making interesting potions means having interesting ingredients! Lydia showcased them in this episode - This episode notably helped us grow our Tiktok's following which would greatly help us later down the line! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
We love story in games! After creating Isle of Maligree we learnt a lot about what was needed, but also what we where missing, when it came to making story scenes. One of the things we did to improve was to make our characters in this game have much more expression! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Here was the first (actually working) example of needing to draw a pattern to craft a potion! We wanted to have a challenge to create a potion, but at the same time we wanted the game to still feel cozy and not overly difficult. I think this was a neat solution! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
As we got more comfortable with the themes of the game and its gameloop, Lydia began working on its UI! (I also think we started hiding crows and other random animals in shorts from here on out?) #gamedev #makeagamewithus
Here is the very first example of quests and combat! This was really important as it would be the vessel for story, main source of ingredients, and the place you actually got to use the potions you create! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
At this point in development, we had managed to get our map scene up and running, and started working on quests!
This would later shape the entire gameloop! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
In this episode Lydia shows how she began growing the world map! Near the end you can also see how we used a wobble shader to make the world feel more alive! #gamedev #makeagamewithus
