Male Ring Ouzel on the #MalvernHills favouring the SW side of North Hill early morning.

Also a couple of Willow Warblers were singing in Happy Valley but the most unusual sighting was a Yellowhammer that flew low north over Table Hill.

North Hill, #MalvernHills this morning. A pair of Ring Ouzels were at the top of Happy Valley, North Hill. Both birds were very wary. The female only came to feed once in the hour I was there. The male was more bold. Red Kite. 1 Tree Pipit & 1 singing Willow Warbler were on Table Hill. #WorcsBirds

This female Black Redstart on the #MalvernHills at End Hill towards the lower end of North Valley was the highlight during a perishingly cold few hours.

A female Wheatear around the summit of Worcestershire Beacon early morning was the best of the rest.

North Hill, this morning. A flock of 40+ Lesser Redpoll were a delight as they fed in Happy Valley. 2 Ring Ouzel. Skylark. 6 Stonechat. A Grey Heron flying west up & over Sugarloaf got the pulse racing for a second. Still made for a good site tick as did 3 Mallard. #MalvernHills #WorcsBirds

Wow!! North Hill #MalvernHills this morning. SEO dropped in briefly before being mobbed & departed W. Trying to relocate the Owl I later returned to Chat Valley to find a Black Redstart & a Wheatear followed by a Ring Ouzel. Then I found another Black Redstart in North Valley. Amazing. #WorcsBirds

You have concisely summed up one aspect of the problem of mountain biking on the #MalvernHills (Two Iron Age hillforts irreparably damaged and the Shire Ditch worn away..) But very little effort or enthusiasm from any relevant authority to do anything about it.

Male Purple Emperor. Expert feedback was that it was showing behaviour not seen in the UK before. Normally seen in the UK at the top of the tree canopy looking for a mate. This individual was behaving like continental PE and was using the height of the ridge line of the hill instead.

Finding 2 Purple Emperor Butterflies on the #MalvernHills is one of my stand out memories from this year. Not seen on the hills since the 1980s it was great to be able to share this find with local enthusiasts. One was present for 4 days offering fantastic close views. @savebutterflies.bsky.social

I spent a lot of 2025 plodding the footpaths of the #MalvernHills with some rewards. My North Hill list ended on 62. Highlights were 2 Osprey, Black Redstart, Hobby, 5 sightings of Ring Ouzel & 14 of Wheatear. On the lower hills I was amazed to witness a pair of Pied Flycatchers mate. #WorcsBirds

Happy Twixmas!

We hope that you had as good a Christmas as we've had here with the family. It's tradition that the cake design is by our sons on the spur of the moment. This year we have Clangers!

We've enjoyed walks on the hills, in mist and with sunsets.

Another great early morning to be out on the #MalvernHills with spectacular views across a fogbound #Worcestershire.

Icing on the cake was finding this female Snow Bunting at the summit of Worcestershire Beacon although it didn't appear to hang around for long.
