#mathematicalRecreations #magicSquare folks: Help me remember the name of a magic square variant, partially remembered from Games Magazine in the 1980s (?).

Instead of inserting integers to make sums of rows/columns, you're given numbers & need to insert arithmetic functions to make the values work

I'd like there to be a more consolidated mathematical recreations community here, but the problem seems to be naming. #mathematicalGames, #mathematicalRecreations, #mathGames #mathPuzzles & other sorts of ontological chaff because it's an old, nerdy hobby with multiple publishing lineages.

Ah well.

Second self-nerdsnipe of the day. Again, continued fractions.

Given a general CF of the form [b0,a1,b1,a2,b2…] meaning b0+a1/(b1+a2/(b2+…))

Can every rational number still
be represented as a finite list of coefficients if some b_i is constrained to be 17?

Say it’s b93

Given strictly positive integers a, b, and i, can you represent the fraction a/b as a [simple or general] continued fraction, where ONLY coefficient i is negative.

For instance, 5/17 is represented normally by the simple CF [0,3,2,2]
