The beef and pork industries contribute billions to Canada's economy. No official policy targets meat ads yet, but the real issue isn't what the law says. It's how far interpretation takes it.

Pigs who may be sick or weak are often removed from the pens and left in the aisle with no food, water, or veterinary care until they die. 😢 This is the cruel reality of factory farming around the world.

I demand that sausage manufacturers stop using the word "sausage" and start calling the sausage what it is, which is:

Mexico overtakes US as second-largest destination for Brazilian beef in August, Abiec says By Roberto Samora SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Mexico has overtaken the U.S. as the second largest importer of Brazil’s beef after the imposition of tariffs by President Donald Trump on August 6 affected shipments from the world’s largest exporter, Brazilian beef lobby Abiec said on Wednesday. Brazilian beef, which was already subject to a U.S. import tax of 26.4% outside of an exempt quota, now faces an additional 50% levy. Between August 1-25, Brazil exported 10,200 metric tons of beef to Mexico worth $58.8 million, according to Abiec data. Shipments from Brazil to the U.S. totaled 7,800 tons, worth $43.6 million, and were also below the 7,900 tons sent to both Russia and Chile. Abiec said beef shipments to Mexico have been growing. In the first seven months of the year, Brazil exported 67,659 tons of beef to the country, worth $365 million, nearly triple the volume from the same period last year. That also compares with around 46,000 tons shipped to Mexico in all of 2024 and just over 5,000 tons in 2023, Abiec said, adding that Brazil aims to increase the number of meatpacking plants authorized to export to the country. For January-July, Brazil’s biggest beef export destinations were China, the U.S., Chile, and Mexico. A Brazilian government mission is visiting Mexico this week. Abiec said one of its priorities is to negotiate a free trade agreement, and noted the importance of renewing the so-called Package Against Inflation and High Prices in Mexico (Pacic) for two years. 3rd party Ad. Not an offer or recommendation by Investing.com. See disclosure here or remove ads. "We continue to engage in dialogue with the Brazilian government and U.S. importers so that the trade relationship is fully re-established," Abiec said. Brazil’s beef tallow demand seen rising as exports hit by US tariffs By Ana Mano SAO PAULO (Reuters) -The use of beef tallow for biodiesel production in Brazil is expected to rise amid a forecast increase in domestic sales aimed at boosting output of the biofuel, industry sources said, noting a rise in beef tallow’s domestic use would also offset a likely drop in U.S. import demand after the imposition of tariffs on Brazilian beef and byproducts. Brazilian beef tallow exports boomed through July thanks to strong U.S. demand. With 290,800 tons shipped in the period, the country sold nearly 91% of the total exported in 2024, Bebedouro-based Scot Consultoria told Reuters. The U.S. accounted for almost 98% of shipments, Scot’s data showed. But now, a 50% U.S. import duty on certain Brazilian products will make Brazilian beef tallow sales "prohibitive" in that market, Andre Nassar, president of Brazil’s oilseed lobby Abiove, said in an interview. However, he noted Brazilian demand may partly mitigate the impact of lower exports to the U.S., citing future beef tallow purchases by biodiesel companies, including from vertically integrated meatpackers which produce biodiesel but don’t make enough of the ingredient they need in-house. Abiove represents processors of soy, which is used to make 75% of Brazil’s biodiesel. Brazil’s beef tallow exports gained pace after a sharp fall in U.S. cattle herds, which cut local output and shifted demand to Brazilian suppliers. Alcides Torres, founder of Scot, said that conceivably, exports surged through July because exporters sped up shipments ahead of the tariff hike. 3rd party Ad. Not an offer or recommendation by Investing.com. See disclosure here or remove ads. "But these are palliative measures," he said, noting the now tariff is practically "an embargo" on beef and by-products’ exports going forward. As the August 6 deadline for applying tariffs has passed, Torres said Brazilian exporters could send product to neighboring countries, which would then be re-exported to the U.S. to avoid the hefty duty. The strategy may expand Brazil’s international buyer base while helping keep shipping volumes, Torres said. Successful investors know to check multiple angles before making their move. Meatpacker Tyson Foods raises annual revenue forecast on resilient chicken demand (Reuters) -Tyson Foods raised its annual revenue growth forecast and posted a better-than-expected third quarter on Monday, betting on resilient demand for meat products, especially chicken, sending its shares up about 4% before the bell. Profit margins jumped in Tyson’s chicken and prepared foods businesses during the quarter, while they worsened in its beef segment. Tight U.S. cattle supplies continue to force Tyson and other meatpackers to pay more money to buy livestock to slaughter into beef. However, the Springdale, Arkansas-based company has seen sustained demand for frozen meat and ready-to-eat food as consumers increasingly opted to cook meals at home in the face of growing uncertainties about tariffs and economic growth. The Ball (NYSE:BALL) Park hotdogs maker expects fiscal 2025 revenue to grow between 2% and 3%, compared with its prior forecast of flat-to-up 1%. "Chicken continues to provide support to the business as the company continues to face beef headwinds," brokerage Stephens said in a note. Tyson said it expects its chicken business to earn an annual adjusted operating income of $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion, up from its previous forecast of $1 billion to $1.3 billion. Its beef business — the largest product segment by sales — is expected to lose $375 million to $475 million in fiscal 2025, compared with the previous loss estimate of $200 million to $400 million. Volumes in Tyson’s beef segment were down 3.1% during the quarter ended June 28, but sales grew 6.9% as prices jumped 10%. The segment had an adjusted operating loss of $151 million, including a goodwill impairment charge of $343 million. That compares with losses of $69 million a year earlier. Sales in the chicken segment rose 3.5%, with volumes up 2.4%. Tyson earned 91 cents per share, on an adjusted basis, while the estimate was 78 cents.
