They waited for the rest of the scroll to go through the scanner. Unfortunately the scanning process caused stress to the scroll; most of it disintegrated into frond-like structures. Most of the document was saved on the device though.
“This is incredible.” Antin kept reading.
“Yeah!” Bill added excitedly. «It seems the author thought that the bond is exactly the same. But that a test – an empathy test – is the determining factor to decide if the bond goes through Light or through Darkness.”
That is. Interesting, Ar’Thyl said. It doesn’t change much though. Edroth are closer to the Light, Dreth are closer to the Dark.
Bill looked at the document again. “That’s true. Though humans are neither or. We may be born closer to the Light, but we can also be corrupted by Darkness.”
Antin looked at the hiding place. “No wonder it was hidden in the vault like that! No one can profit from that revelation.”
A gentle breeze slipped in when the door opened. Zhe’ra came through it, more like a tempest than gently. “Here you are! I’ve looked all over for you.”
“Bill looked up at the Edroth space. “Why didn’t you just ask Castor! I see him hiding behind our Aludims» he said flatly.
“What’s up Zhe’ra?” Antin asked. He could see she was about to bite off her great great grandson's face.
“There’s three boats coming,” she said, before looking up. “And none of you three up there noticed?”
“Are they firing?” Bill asked
“No. They just came up and stopped right outside the shield. I think you need to head out there and ask them what they’re up too.

“I know Aludim. I think I’m just getting a bit frustrated with the lack of information.”
Don’t you think the ones who built this city tried to find the solution too?
“Well, yes…”
“Well then!” Antin said. Emboldened by Bills lack of progress. “It’s time for a break! Let’s go get something to eat!”
“Sound good…” Bill started. Before noticing something that looked like a book behind a loose wall panel. “What’s this?”
He bent down and pried the panel open just enough to get at the object. A sharp pain and he withdrew his hand.
What happened? Ar’Thyl worried
“What’s up?” Antin said, moving to intercede.
Bill looked at his hand. “I just got a splinter from trying to get out that box.”
Antin looked at the object. “Probably a cursed lexicon. Why’d they hide it there?”
“Maybe it was something someone wanted to save, maybe it can teach us something valuable?”
He tried again and lifted the fragile box up on the table. The box disintegrated within seconds, leaving a scroll inside fairly intact. Antin and Bill both grabbed it to stretch it out,
“A take on the covenant between Dreth and Darkness.” Antin read aloud. “Most of it is lost, but it seems to talk about findings on the Dreth Aludim bond. From what I can see it just ends with they deciding it is the same bond, but through darkness, as we have through Light.”
“But that the Dreth probably misunderstood the bond and used it to enslave the humans.” Bill continued.
This is known history to us, the knowledge contained made it out. We think the slaves made an uprising. Offering to partner with the Dreth, creating the evil G’Roth. Ar’Thyl said. Dangerous man he was. Maybe still is.
“The scroll has more information though; we should scan it to the system before it disintegrates more.” Bill carefully lifted the parchment to the scanners, and fed it through the apparatus. Within moments the document appeared on the display.
“There’s loads more!” Antin echoed.

He continued scouring the files to try to solve the riddle. He felt challenged by it but felt confident he’d figure it out sooner or later. Not that Anthony and the others haven’t tried… a light sparkled above him just before he heard the door close by the entrance.
“Hey Bill, what’re you up to?” Antin came over to him.
“Just had another dream about the people underground. I’m trying to search through these files to see if I can find any trace of them.”
Antin came to stand behind him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Bill felt electric currants flow between them, and shivered.
“What?” Antin asked, removing his hand.
“Oh, it’s not that. It felt. Good…” he reached back and squeezed Antin’s hand.
Antin returned the squeeze, just as they heard movement above. “Don’t mind the peanut gallery.” He looked up to see Ar’Thyl and Nyx staring down at them. “But I was wondering about our date.”
Oh, we endorse this. Nyx said enthusiastically. Ar’Thyl agreed.
“Uhm. Sure, when, eh, where did you want to go?” Bill turned from the monitor to look at Antin. His hair reminded him of leaves from a lily floating on a lake. His eyes like hazel firelight… he realized he was staring and looked down.
“Oh, eh. How about we go to Wales? Cardiff? Where Doctor Who was filmed, and Torchwood?”
“Oh?” Bill laughed. “I hadn’t pegged you for a sci fi nerd!”
“Look who’s talking!” Antin laughed.
“Cardiff seems fine. When are we going?” Bill turned back to the monitor, something was blinking. A note left by Anthony. About how when he was delving on the stones to see when the protective circle was created. He had no way of telling how long ago it happened. He wrote that the people there looked humanoid, but that they wore some sort of hooded garments so he couldn’t see who they were.
“That sounds just like the man who shut us out from our dream Ar’Thyl. It may be the same people!”
Don’t form hasty conclusions about it Aludim. Ar’Thyl responded.

“I think I want to head down to the library to check if I can find anything on these other people.”
I think Anthony and the others have tried that already. Ar’Thyl tried to be encouraging but failed to make Bill’s resolve waver.
“I’ll still give it a go. See you later Aludim!” Bill headed out into the atrium and toward the stairs. Once downstairs he decided on a whim to go around the library and enjoy the sea on his way. He hadn’t had many chances to walk along the islands edge, but he knew Antin had stayed back there when he first came to the city. Small currents formed in the water, small riptides as the sea receded as he passed.
If another race of beings has lived along us all along, how did they manage to deceive us? He asked no one in particular.
Ar’Thyl answered anyway. Maybe humans just aren’t particularly good at perception. Recall, they relegated us and this city to myth beyond legend too.
Bill opened the door to the library’s back entrance. It still looked empty – despite Zhe’ra and Georgios scouring book fairs for interesting stories to bring back. He headed to the computer displays and started a search for the oldest known history.
He waded through a mire of entries, flicking through countless entries on Edroth history and earth history. On one of the entries though, he saw that the builders of the protective circle were suspected to be a long gone unknown civilization. That’s probably something. Other interesting results were from religion, where some cultures all referred to serpent beings. Antin mentioned a serpent man…
He felt challenged by these nuggets, like there was something more. Something he couldn’t quite grasp. Truth be told, he didn’t even know if those stories were real, or just fake citations being handed down through the ages.

Bill opened his eyes and recognized the strange orb of Light up in the ceiling of whatever space he was on. The valley was long, and he was on the same rocks as where he’d encountered Temozin last time. Though, this time the strange Edroth was nowhere to be seen.
Aludim, where are you? He heard Ar’Thyl but couldn’t see him anywhere.
He looked around once more. I’m in that strange cave with emerald water, where I met that Edroth I think is bonded to Anita’s son.
I’m going to try to cross the divide and come to you.
Bill heard a coarse snap before the sky split and Ar’Thyl pushed through. “Hey! You made it!”
It is strange. Like pushing through a veil or even an existential breach. It is very peculiar. I could feel you and followed the bond. But I’ve never seen anywhere like this.
“Yeah, so – around that bend there is a village. These rocky areas are where I first met Temozin. I wonder if he is coming tonight.
Should we fly over there and have a look?
“I dunno, we might, I guess. But the area feels… closed off I guess.”
I sense a little of what you do. But I do want to see.
“Ok.” Bill climbed up on Ar’Thyl and he took off.
This cavern is larger than I thought after your last visit. I can really stretch my wings in here!
“Yeah, it’s quite big. I wonder if there are others like it elsewhere. Like, if that’s where Paolo is questing now.”
The village came into view, the square buildings almost flowing up the little hill. A small beach and some chairs were set out. Towards the middle of the hill the square had a pole raised above it. Ar’Thyl went to land in front of large doors leading into the largest building in the town… This feels like the parliament in Al’Edos, has that same energy.
Bill looked at the massive wooden doors, they were ornately carved – or formed. The town seemed lifeless, yet he felt a presence somewhere. He went to open the door, but it almost opened into him and a man stepped out.
“You are not supposed to be here. Leave.”

The meal concluded with a type of bread-pudding dessert. Bill felt full, physically and spiritually, and couldn’t wait to ‘hit the hay’ as it were.
He walked his mother and grandfather to the elevator.
“You take care, son.” Toby said. “I’lll dart home tomorrow, Zhe’ra will take me, tie up some loose ends then I’ll be back.”
“I’ll join them,” Rebecca explained. “I need to hand in my notice and finish up. But, I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Bill hugged them goodbye. “Wish I could come too, but I have enough to do here.”
“With that handsome lad of yours?” Toby teased.
“Leave him be Toby, young love is hard enough to navigate. Keep yourself save William – and Antin too.”
“I will mom!”
They left and he walked into his apartment. Ar’Thyl was already there. It is overcast today. I never liked the dark clouds. Feels claustrophobic!
Bill walked over to his windows. “It’s just weather. But maybe you are affected by the changes in the clouds cause?”
He headed into the bathroom to relieve himself.
I’m pleased to see you and Antin finally catching on.
“Catching on? I didn’t know he liked me! I didn’t understand my own feelings on the matter, I only lived for sports and helping mom. Boys or girls were never on my mind.” He flushed the button and remarked on the lack of sounds from whichever type of setup the city used. “The septic language of this place is quiet.” He said aloud as he pondered the matter while washing his hands.
I think the used matter from your toilet and the water you wash with just dissolve into Light when it passes through the valves. I hear no sounds indicating a system of tubes below the floor.
“How about where the water comes from “
Possibly the same. Maybe the ancients knew how to create such marvels.
Bill yawned. “Well, I’m heading to bed. Hope you and Nyx had fun tonight. He went into his bedroom and started undressing. He paused when his hand touched a small bump. He took out the small trinket Anita had given him in Teotihuacán. …

The food was amazing. Dofhâwr had recreated dishes he and Georgios had experienced throughout their long lives. Bill loved all of it! Antin seemed more apprehensive, but Bill didn’t think that was weird. Growing up with Zhe’ra nearby had introduced him to so much odd food throughout his life. Of course, now he knew why: she had recreated memories and shared them through meals.
“Why do you seem so withdrawn Antin?” Zhe’ra asked. “Is there something on your mind?”
Antin looked up, Bill could see his eyes were misty as he watched the table. He reached for his hand and squeezed a little encouragement. Antin smiled as he squeezed back.
“It’s just, food, family… things I never had growing up. This is. A lot.” He leaned into the crook of Bills neck, “I’m sorry.”
Rebecca leaned over and hugged Antin, “there is nothing to apologize for, I feel so blessed to have you – have you all – be additions to my little family!”
“Hear, hear!” Zhe’ra said
“Now then, onto our unresolved plot: what will we do when these representatives show up?” Georgios asked. “Will it pose a risk?”
“Anthony showed me on the screens how Al’Edos used to be, with several rings radiating outward from this central island. I think he said there used to be apartments meant for visitors there.” Dofhâwr looked at Bill and Antin, “maybe you two can find it on the computer screen?”
Antin got up. “I’m sure Bill can mediate between them. He had such wonderful authority when we faced off against the soldiers.”
Bill’s face turned bright red. “I only did what I thought was best.”
Z’Hera slammed her hand on the table. “And that, my boy. Is exactly how we need to deal with them. You and me, and your loverboy can deal with these representatives. When they come.”

Chapter Twelve

Bill’s heart felt like it was beating a marathon. Flipping emotional twist! I was hoping for a word. But instead, I feel like I’ve won the Lottery!
Ar’Thyl sent warmth. It warms my core to feel you this happy Aludim!
“Are you ok?” Antin asked.
Bill was still sitting there, in a daze, blush coloring his cheeks. “I’m ok. It’s just. I’ve never…”
Antin blushed too. “Me too. Never.”
They sat there for a few moments before Bill got up. “Uhm. We should head upstairs, I’m sure the dinner is just about ready.”
Antin got up too. He grabbed Bills hand. “Are we ok?”
“Yeah. I think so.”
“Can I take you on a date? Tomorrow?” Antin smiled shyly.
“Sure. I’d like that.”
“Cool! We can go anywhere!»
They took the stairs, pausing just before they would’ve become visible for the people upstairs. Antin nudged Bill into the wall, stealing a quick peck before he pulled Bill after him up to the atrium.
“Finally!” Zhe’ra said.
Bill wanted to flee, but Antin’s hold on his hand kept him moving.
“William!” His mother called. “Come sit down! You too Antin, come sit right here.”
They sat down next to Rebecca. He could see Dofhâwr and Georgios sat at either end, with Zhe’ra and Toby sat on the other side from him. The table was filled with mouth watering food. On the balcony above he could see Tannamir, Castor and Nyx. He could feel Ar’Thyl there too.
“Why is your head so red boy.” Zhe’ra cackled.
Bill had never felt so unconfident.
“Young love,” Dofhâwr said. “Is something it is important to entreat oneself.”
“How are you doing Antin?” His mother asked. Bills attention was longing for, yet terrified of being judged.
“I’m good ma’am. Better now with your son back.”
Rebecca hugged him. “I’m sure you are. Welcome to the family.”
“Mom!” Bill protested.
“Oh I saw you too. We all did. We were just waiting for you too to catch up.” She smiled at her son. “It’s all right! Now, fill up! We have lots to be thankful for tonight!”

Chapter Twelve Bill’s heart felt like it was beating a marathon. “I’m ok. It’s just. I’ve never…” Antin blushed too. “Me too. Never.” They sat there for a few moments before Bill got up. “Uhm. We should head upstairs, I’m sure the dinner is just about ready.” Antin got up too. He grabbed Bills hand. “Are we ok?” “Yeah. I think so.” “Can I take you on a date? Tomorrow?” Antin smiled shyly. “Sure. I’d like that.” “Cool! We can go anywhere!» They took the stairs, pausing just before they would’ve become visible for the people upstairs. Antin nudged Bill into the wall, stealing a quick peck before he pulled Bill after him up to the atrium. “Finally!” Zhe’ra said. Bill wanted to flee, but Antin’s hold on his hand kept him moving. “William!” His mother called. “Come sit down! You too Antin, come sit right here.” They sat down next to Rebecca. “Is something it is important to entreat oneself.” “How are you doing Antin?” His mother asked. “How old are you, Antin? Like, I think you’re about my age, I’m 17, I’ll be eighteen in the end of October.”
Antin laughed. “So, you’ve got the misfortune of being a Scorpio, eh?”
Bill pushed him down on the couch. “Scorpions aren’t that bad, and you didn’t answer my question.”
“I turned eighteen a couple of months ago. That’s when I got kicked out of the group home.”
“They do that?”
“I don’t know if all do, mine was run by a druggie who only wanted money. I guess they didn’t get money past my birthday. Thankfully I had saved up a little from shifts at the movie theatre, and I found a shelter I could call home for a few weeks. Then I met Nyx and this whole adventure started.”
“I still feel green with all of this. Ar’Thyl is amazing and the abilities I’m still trying to find out of. But I wouldn’t change it for anything now.”
“Me neither. Must admit though. I’m jealous you can fly on your own! I’ve even tried to use vibration in the air, like sound, to levitate – without success.”
“Phonetic gravity? I think I read once of someone who had used sound to levitate stones, but isn’t it easier to do it with Light?”
“The closest I can do is portal up to the air and go trough. But I’ll fall immediately.”
“I’ll break your fall…” Bill said softly. “Can I ask you something?” Bill felt terrible. Afraid of a bad reaction.
Antin sat up, “sure, what’s on your mind?”
Part of Bill wanted to run away – disappear forever. But be needed to know. Stuttering he got the words out. “Do you like me? Like I… you…”
Antin raised his hand and placed it behind Bills neck, his thumb caressing the lobe of his ear. He pulled them closer and as their lips met Bill was either in heaven – or hell, as their kiss deepened.
After a while – how long Bill couldn’t tell –Antin pulled away.
“Does that answer your question?” Antin smiled at him.

“Yeah!” Antin added. “Or else they will lead us to literal oblivion!”
Zhe’ra turned to look at her great grandson. “Bill, when you and Ar’Thyl were underground, you said you encountered someone there that helped you?” Bill nodded. She turned to Antin. “And when I read your retelling of your time in Boulder – you, and Nyx – a village I recall hearing of in my youth, by the way – you said some kind of serpent creature tried to help you? Could they be the same creatures?”
Bill shook his head. “The ones I thought I saw looked like people, but something about them seemed different,”
And I was asleep, strangely so, unaware of anything happening. But someone had brought sustenance to my Aludim in the night. Ar’Thyl sent a memory to Zhe’ra and Georgios, of them waking up to find a plate of sandwiches.
Tannamir bent to meet their eyes. Now dear Aludim, lest their family think we are hoarding their kin, we should take a break to rest before the feast tonight.
“Feast?” Bill asked.
“Yes, good idea Tannamir!” Georgios said. “To celebrate your return to us, and that your mother had agreed to become our resident medical practitioner! We’ve invited Rebecca and Toby to join us in the tower dining area in an hour. Dofhâwr is upstairs setting up as we speak.”
Me and Nyx will do a patrol around the island. Ar’Thyl said. Bill got the impression his beloved Aludim wanted him to spend time alone with Antin…
“Let’s hope you disappearing will be the worst thing this summer.” Antin said. “Though I suppose something will surpass it before the war is done.”
Bill followed Antin out of the main chamber “I know, right! But I’m not sure what’s worse – facing another seething Dreth – or facing another sourly military officer.”
“No, let's not repeat of that either!” Antin flapped down into one of the couches in the outer hallway.
Bill sat down next to him, “I fear we will, though. Face both. I hope the others return before the ambassadors start showing up though.”

“Not to be the token goose,” Antin said. “But isn’t that like describing the Dreth? Every time we’ve fought them, they seem to come back even more conniving.”
Georgios sighed, “there seems truth to both statements. Humanity has grown back every time we’ve been beaten back, but the Dreth have survived literal hell, and grown stronger for it.”
“Well, this won’t be humanity’s final submission. Even in my time we knew time moves in ages that come and pass, and come again. Not literally, of course, but our knowledge and our connection to Light and Darkness grow and wanes. We learn, we forget, and relearn again.” Zhe’ra paused to look at the younglings. “And let me assure you, no matter how dreary it looks, there will always be another chance.”
After a brief silence, Bill asked the obvious question: “So how can we protect the planet from itself?”
Georgios looked as lost as Bill and Antin, but after a glance at his Aludim he continued. “What Zhe’ra says rings true. But she also revealed the answer, maybe without knowing it. We need to enlighten people, bring the Light back into each one willing to let it speak to them.”
“That sounds awfully like a religion,” Antin said. “Where I’m from religions bring strife and despair while preaching the truth of a god.”
“The Light isn’t a god. It just is.” Georgios regaled. “Equal and opposite to Darkness it is a force of all that is growth, creation, and progress. By connecting to a thinking being – one who has a soul – something remarkable happens. A kind of cosmic consciousness emerges. Not a being of its own, but an exchange between the Light and the soul.”
He looked at the three of them.
“In my time we called it the creator and the dark one, but I see those are just names for the same thing. The creator wasn’t a god. It didn’t dictate or demand. It just was the start and upkeeps of reality. A reality the dark one wanted to destroy.”

“The world has changed since you were young, that’s for sure. Maybe I could recommend some books or websites to help you to catch up on?” Bill said, thinking the best thing they could be doing was to learn more about the different countries around the area. He knew Brazil was close, and Venezuela and Cuba, and Mexico, but he didn’t really know much about them.
“Yeah, we don’t fight with swords anymore,” Antin chimed in.
“I have been reading about the broad strokes of history,” Tannamir said. “The language is so different from when I was young. But the computers here can show me documents in my native language, which is wonderful.”
Antin sighed. “Well, the world seems to consist of an absurd collective of leaders – playing dice with us regular folk.”
“We’re not exactly regular folk anymore Antin.” Bill looked up where Ar’Thyl and Nyx were intently watching them,
“No, I know. But unjust, patronizing leaders upset me, like that ship. They clearly thought they knew the truth. And used weapons to try to put us down.”
Nyx hrmph’d. Aludim, we were great! We stopped the Shadow from influencing those people. You and Bill did that.
You both proved yourself as capable of being true leaders in the future. Ar’Thyl added.
Bill looked up. “I find it suspicious that you two are ganging up on us!”

We are not, Aludim! Ar’Thyl feigned innocence. We just think you two think too little of yourselves.
And are slow. Nyx added, before he turned from view.
“Oh, the warmth from our Aludims!” Antin said, looking at Nyx where he cowered behind Ar’Thyl. “What do you mean slow?”
Tannamir watched the whole scene thoughtfully, but he slapped his stick three times on the floor. “We were here to discuss the attack. I think we’ve gotten out of task.”
“Sorry, councillor.” Bill said. Nyx and Ar’Thyl straightened and Antin came up to the front with Bill again.
“Ar’Thyl shared images of the event with us. Except for what I just witnessed here in this chamber, I agree with your Aludims assessment. You two have proved yourself capable of greatness, on par with the other young Aludim.” He looked up as Zhe’ra and Castor came in.
Zhe’ra looked at the gathered Edroth and the three humans. “Humanity of this age is like a gorse. Pretty and full of thorns, clamoring to anything. But when beaten down, they come back stronger.”

Bill got up, intending to go find Antin and talk to the council. Before he turned the corner though, his mother called after him.
“I hope you’ll not be reckless and engage in any fights my precious. Remember, I want you happy and safe.”
“I’ll try, ma, but you know – the world is changing fast.”
“It sure is. Well, give my best to Antin.”
Bill blushed. “I will. Bye ma!”
After exiting her rooms, he went to the elevator chamber and pressed the icon of the parliament tower entryway. He felt the slight tingle of Light as it passed through him and by the next heartbeat the doors opened and he could step out into the parliament foyer.
Antin was there, waiting. “I haven’t dared go in. Ar’Thyl told Nyx to tell me to wait for you,,, Tannamir is muttering to himself about procedures and wayward governments. I don’t think he’s used to our world yet.”
Bill laughed. “He is from another time. I don’t think there were guns in Wales in his day. Oh, mom says hi.”
“Oh? Anything new?”
“She’s staying in Al’Edos. I’m so relieved. She’s seemed overworked ever since dad died. I hope she can relax a bit here.”
They entered the council chamber and the assembled Edroth all turned to look at them. Bill could feel Ar’Thyl entering at the same time as him. So, you didn’t go tell on us? He laughed.
We are Aludim. We work together. Ar’Thyls reply was short and concise.
“Well, there our saviors are!” Tannamir beamed when he saw them. “The attacks stopped a while ago; I suspect that was your doing?”
“We talked to their immediate superiors and managed to turn their view. They’ll be sending an envoy once they find someone suitable,”
“That’s good. The other young Aludim left a while back after Nick had a vision. I don’t know when they’ll be back. So, it’s just the Edroth, Georgios and us left to deal with this.”
Bill looked around but couldn’t see his ancestor. “And Zhe’ra, surely. And my mom will help in the medical centre if needed.”

Chapter Eleven
Bill was exhausted. So much had happened over the past few days that he was beat. Instead of heading into the parliament, he went to his mom’s rooms and found her drinking a cup of tea on her couch. She shimmied over and he laid down with his head in her lap, like he’d done many times growing up.
“How are you doing my love?” Anita said, stroking his head.
“I’m good ma. Just needed a rest.” He yawned.
“You’re making me feel all nostalgic William. But do you like it here?” Her voice was mild, with hints of concern.
“I love it here. I have friends, and Ar’Thyl – having someone so close you can share thoughts and feelings with - it’s special! I wouldn’t want anything else.”
“Not even…” she paused. “Not even a boyfriend?”
Bill shot up. “Ma!”
Anita worked him back down before continuing. “Oh precious. You don’t need to worry. I see how you care for Antin. And I see how Antin looks at you. There’s nothing wrong, no moral uncertainty about that. If you like him, and he likes you, that’s wonderful.”
Bill was silent a long while.
“I’ll go get you a drink, love, I’ll be right back.” She carefully lifted his head and placed a pillow under it and headed out in the hallway to the food device.

Do I like him? Bill thought. Really?
I think you do. I think you know you do. Ar’Thyl answered.
Anita returned with a can of soda. “Here you go love.” He took it while getting up to sit beside her.
After a sip he looked at his mother. “How do you like it here? Gramps? I haven’t seen him much.”
She laughed. “Your gramps got the shock of his life when he found out his kindly neighbor was really the aunt he had as a child, was in fact his biological grandmother. He’s been interrogating her for days, except when we all were searching for you.” She looked at him sternly. “You know that disappearance scared us all half to death.” Bill looked down.
“I know ma. It wasn’t on purpose.”
“I know that. But I’ve talked with Zhe’ra and Tannamir. I think there’s a place for me here. Anthony has started showing me the healing centre. I think I can work there.”
Bill perked up. “So, you’ll stay?”
“I think I will. If that’s ok with you.”
“I’d like that.”

The captain backed up, praying to whichever god he was mumbling to. Bill turned up his charm. “You seem to think us something akin to be evil lycanthropes, we are not! We’re human and Edroth. The creatures who attacked you were Dreth, creatures that serve darkness and chaos. So, I ask again; why are you attacking us?”
Around them the soldiers had dropped their weapons when they saw none got through Bills shield, nor did they hurt the Edroth, who were standing proud around the wrecked remains of the weapons stations.
A thin, short black-haired man came out of the cabin,
“I’m the resident envoy of the government. Our leaders saw your speech right now and are reviewing the footage from the attack. If what you say is true, we apologize for this misfortune attack we initiated.”
Nyx didn’t like the weasel. If you want to talk to us: next time just ask! A puff of Light escaped his nostrils as he breathed down the little man. We are not here to offer a humorous critique of your ways, but you did wrong.
The diplomat cowered and backed up to the wall behind him. Bill remained standing, as non-threatening as he could, intensely aware of Antin beside him.
Inside conflicted feelings ran through him. Anger at the unprovoked attack, despair about what a little weed this human appeared as. And an intense awareness of the handsome man standing just out of view – but very much within his awareness.
A phone rang, the diplomat looked at the two men in front of him and took the call. A few seconds later, sweat dripping on his brow, he looked at Bill. “My government offers sincere apologies for this misunderstanding. And is prepared to start diplomatic relations with your government.”
Bill looked at Antin, understanding flowing between them, Nyx and Ar’Thyl also agreed. “That is well. When they send someone worthy, we can talk. Now, pack up and leave our waters.”
He jumped back up on Ar’Thyl, any semblance of modesty left behind.

“Ey, guys?” Tori stood up again. “Didn’t we try to send a message telling the world about who we were here?”
“Yes, my love.” Anthony replied from the console. “But we never got a reply, I’m unsure if anyone actually received us.”
“How about we make a video, release on multiple platforms?” Bill asked. “I take it this is the territory of Al’Edos now, something we should protect, but also try enlightening people? Besides, most of the Edroth here has no Aludim. Shouldn’t they get the opportunity to search for them?”
Another hit sounded on the shield.
Enough of this ontological babble, Nyx said. We shouldn’t hurt people, but we need to tell them who we are and stop them from harassing us!
“You are right, youngling. Though I fear this is not the new chapter we hoped it would be, who volunteers to try to pursuance them to stop firing?”
Me and Antin will! Nyx said.
Bill looked at Ar’Thyl. “We’ll join too.”
A few Edroth joined in, and the rest started broadcasting on any channel they could to try to connect with someone who would listen.
“But first,” Antin looked at Mrs Arrevez. “I should open a portal to bring you home. Can you show me where your house is?”
Anita looked him, dazed. “Yes, I can show you on a map on my phone. I guess you’re not familiar in Mexico City? We live just down from the shopping centre in Satelite.”
Bill saw Antin produce the portal and waved bye to the woman as he jumped up on Ar’Thyl’s back. “No more subterranean tunnels, ok?”
No promises!
They were joined by several other Edroth as they flew out of the chamber, heading toward were the detonations originated. Antin joined him a moment later with Nyx. They paused inside the protective shield of the city.

They were joined by several other Edroth as they flew out of the chamber, heading toward were the detonations originated. Antin joined him a moment later with Nyx. They paused inside the protective shield of the city.
It surprised them to see that the attacking entities, were lifeless drones. Bill shouted what he hoped was a command: “Let׳’s bring them down!”
The Edroth went crazy, tearing the drones apart quicker than they could retaliate. Antin spotted something and came over to home “there’s a ship over there. How about we portal over there and surprise them?”
Bill nodded, “Ar’Thyl, tell the others and let’s go.”
Antin opened the portal, and they went through, followed by at least a dozen others. They appeared by the front of the ship, at once disassembling every apparent weapon on the warship.
Soldiers screamed and lifeboats were lowered to the ground.
Bill jumped off Ar’Thyl, Antin came to follow him. He armed himself with a shield that stopped any bullets headed their way and walked straight towards the man he identified as in charge.
He looked the man straight in the eye; “Why are you attacking us?”

The room fell quiet. Tannamir, the current head of the council of Aludim, looked around the chamber before his gaze settled on Bill. “It is a boon to us that our younglings William and Ar’Thyl returned to us safe and sound. And with them, news of another unknown Aludim pair has reached us, the Light is not done with its wonders yet.”
He turned to pick up something. “Mrs. Arrevez, welcome to our city. It seems your visit was foretold, someone calling themselves the Oracle has sent a message concerning your son, Paolo. I invite you up here to see for yourself.” He indicated for Anita to join him.
Tannamir unfurled the parchment so she could read.
She read, tears in her eyes, before summarizing it aloud. “It says Paolo and Temozin have been sent on a quest. To traverse forgotten realms and help fulfill a prophesy. It says that they are safe and are expected to return by the end of next week.”
“That’s wonderful news!” Bill’s mom said.
Suddenly a sharp sound rang out. Through the awnings covering the large openings around the upper chamber they saw streaks on the shield – like lightning. Anthony ran to a console and read aloud. “Someone tried detonating an explosive, but our shields made it explode before it could harm us. Who’d want to attack us, now?”
It wasn’t long after before another hit jolted them. “It appears your systems isn’t reading international news.” Antin said, “Mrs. Arrevez told us that Bolivia is angry with us for destroying their ancient sites.”
Tannamir blinked, “but we helped stop the Dreth, it was them that were destroying the site.”
It seems they chose a less humorous critique of the situation, Ar’Thyl interjected.
“We haven’t had time to start engaging in international relations since we raised the city.” Elijah said, “it’s only a few of us – and you Edroth. Not exactly a diplomacy core.”
“Excuse me,” Bill’s mom said. “How long can those shields keep them out if they keep at it?”

Entering the big hall of the council Bill noticed the rafters were completely full. Incense was wafting through the air, and it seemed everyone was here. He glanced back at Anita, who seemed spellbound as she looked around at all the assembled Edroth.
“William!!!” His mother shouted when she saw him, she came running and wrapped him in a tight hug, “Don’t you ever disappear like that again young man! We’ve been going crazy here searching for you! Where have you been?”
“Mom, meet Anita Arrevez, Mrs. Arrevez, meet my mom Anita Nielsen, mom, she’s looking for her missing son as well.” Bill slipped out of his mother's grasp, aware enough of her character to wager that she’ll switch into supporter mode at once.
“Oh, my dear woman! How horrendous! How long had he been missing?” his mom was true to form.
“It’s nice to see you back safe loverboy!” Tori gave Bill a hug too, “Elijah and Nick told us you were all right, but it was hard to believe – you just disappeared into some weird textural membrane.”
“I suspect you or Ar’Thyl have unlocked a new ability, did any of you feel anything?” Elijah asked.
No, neither of us registered what happened. There were so much going on, we were both full of Light and desperate, so I guess you could possibly be right Elijah. Ar’Thyl had found a seat behind the innermost circle of seats.
Elijah patted Bill on the shoulder. “We’ll research more once we find out what’s going on.”
“What is going on? And why do I feel the incense smells of strawberry gelato?”
Elijah laughed, “some of the Edroth have discovered incense. They are working through them methodically trying to find the most pleasing scents. All of our eyes are watering.”
Tannamir held a stick aloft and thumped it twice on the floor. «Now then, as wonderful as it is to see our younglings returned to us safely, we have a guest and an explanation if needed.”

Walking through the portal, he took one glance back to see a massive military vehicle rolling into the avenue of the dead. He turned to his Aludim and said silently: Shit, this was our only chance to escape! This military would try to stop us, capture us or worse!
Ar’Thyl, who was just behind them, lifted his head to see more clearly. These government hold to imaginary principles of what it means to protect the land.
These humans seem like massive idiots, Nyx added, or simply fowl agents of chaos.
“Fowl agents? You mean foul!” Antin laughed. Nyx just looked at him.
Anita had stopped as soon as she’d stepped through, her hand clutching the jewelry that hung around her neck. “Wow!” She turned to Bill and Antin, “Thank you for letting me see this!”

“This is Anita Arrevez, she’s looking for her son.” Bill said.
“Her son?” Anthony said, confused.
Anita went to shake Anthony’s hand. “My son, Paolo. These two say he’s what they are, Aludim? To an Edroth, like that one,” she said, pointing to Nyx, “but golden.”
“Anita Arrevez eh?” Anthony said, “pleasure. But this is fortunate – we just received a parchment addressed to ‘Anita Arrevez,’ so we were expecting someone Spanish or Mexican – not a Viking!”
Anita laughed, “I’m from Britain, but I took my husbands name when we married and moved to Mexico.” She looked him in the eye, “does the parchment say anything about my son?”
“We haven’t opened it, it just appeared in the council room a few minutes ago, I was on the way to the office to try to find you online.” He looked at Bill and Ar’Thyl “we also need to talk with the two of you, get an account of your story.”

Suddenly angry shouts were heard. Damn my linguistic impotence! Bill thought, he’d tried to learn Spanish in school but just hadn’t been able to grasp it. The shouts were coming from further back from the square where they stood, but they didn’t sound pleasant.
We should move, Ar’Thyl said.
“It might not be safe for you here.” The woman said, “as I said, there are angry people after the destruction in Bolivia, and here you stand in the middle of ancient structures here in Mexico.”
“Yes,” Bill started just as a tear in the fabric of space appeared inside the bubble with them.
The woman gasped in awe at the opening portal and mouthed “Magnanimous.” She was mesmerized by the spectacle of it all!
“Bill!” Antin’s voice sounded through the opening. “Where have you been! We’ve been so worried!” As soon as the opening was stable Antin rushed through and hugged Bill tight.
“I missed you too.” Bill said softly as he returned the hug, enjoying the scent of clover on him. “Oh, Antin this is…” he looked at the woman.
“Anita Arrevez,” she said. “I’m Anita Arrevez. I’m looking for my son, Paolo, who disappeared from here two weeks ago.”
“Her son is with a golden Edroth called Temozin.” Bill said
Antin looked from the woman to Bill. “How do you know?”
“It’s a long story. Hey, Ms. Arrevez, do you want to come with us to Al’Edos? We can help you search from there.”
She looked uncertain, “I need to get back to my husband, otherwise I would gladly come.”
“You can still come; I’ll bring you back whenever you need to. But I think we should go now.” Antin said, looking at the commotion that was approaching.
I concur, Ar’Thyl said. It might not be safe to pursue any action here now.
Anita turned to see the chaos behind her and took Bills offered hand, gratified as she walked through the portal with them.

Hmm. A golden Edroth, like in your dream. Ar’Thyl sounded intrigued.
Bill jumped down and went to the woman. To shield them from all the cameras and people he turned the bubble around them opaque. “I’m sorry, I have not seen your son. But I have seen the Edroth you described in my dreams.”
The woman sighed. “I’m sorry. I’ve been coming here every day looking for him. The school was no help either – despite him being on a school trip when he disappeared.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. We’ve been gone a few days too, but we need to head back to Al’Edos now.”
“You’re William right,” the woman interrupted him. “The news has talked of you. The Bolivian government is furious at the attack on their ancient sites, claiming you destroyed many priceless ruins. They are threatening repercussions against AL’Edos.”
Bill’s hands dropped. “But that wasn’t our fault!”
No, that was the Dreth. I understand now why Nyx refers to them as a scourge. Whoever described it to the government gave incoherent testimony.
The woman looked at Ar’Thyl curiously. “I can hear you, in my head?”
Yes, that is how we Edroth speak. Nice to meet you, I am Ar’Thyl. Bonded Edroth to this human, my Aludim, Bill.
“I think your son might be bonded to this golden Edroth, Temozin. And if I understood him right, he said they were on an incredible journey.”
The woman looked flabbergasted. “My Paolo – bonded to an… Edroth?”
“I’m not certain ma’am. But I think so.”
She opened her purse and took out a small wooden object. “This talisman meant a lot for him when he was a child. Will you take it, give it to him if he comes to your city, this Al’Edos?”
Bill took the small carved object in his hand, it was a beautiful, engraved dragon on it, looking quite like Temozin he thought.
“He drew the same dragon bountiful times when he was a child. My brother – he lives in England – carved this for him on one of our visits there.” She said, with moistened eyes.

Whoever described it to the government gave incoherent testimony. The woman looked at Ar’Thyl curiously. “I can hear you, in my head?” Yes, that is how we Edroth speak. Nice to meet you, I am Ar’Thyl. Bonded Edroth to this human, my Aludim, Bill. “I think your son might be bonded to this golden Edroth, Temozin. And if I understood him right, he said they were on an incredible journey.” The woman looked flabbergasted. “My Paolo – bonded to an… Edroth?” “I’m not certain ma’am. But I think so.” She opened her purse and took out a small wooden object. “This talisman meant a lot for him when he was a child. Will you take it, give it to him if he comes to your city, this Al’Edos?” Bill took the small carved object in his hand, it was a beautiful, engraved dragon on it, looking quite like Temozin he thought. “He drew the same dragon bountiful times when he was a child. My brother – he lives in England – carved this for him on one of our visits there.” She said, with moistened eyes.

Lethargy threatened to overwhelm him as they began the days walk. However, they didn’t walk far before a wall stopped their progress. The wall seemed coated in a viscous liquid of some sort, but when Bill touched it, he realized it was just an illusion. Along one side he found a small indentation which he thought looked like the pendant he had around his neck.
He placed the pendant in the opening and the illusion fell away, the wall retracted into the sides of the tunnel and an opening into a large, empty cavern was before them. The chamber had a tall, tapered ceiling, and he could see two openings on the other side of the space.
“Come, let’s try the largest of the two openings, hoping it leads us out.”
As good an idea as the other. It feels like we’re near the surface, the air pressure feels right.
They entered into a small hallway that led to a large, almost square tunnel going perpendicular to the hallway.
“There are steps here in the dust, look.”
Yes, I think four pairs of feet have shuffled through here. I wonder… Elijah, Nick, Tori and Anthony fought Dreth among the pyramids of Teotihuacán. They described a tunnel like this.
Bill noticed some other footprints leading towards where they had emerged. “Those prints are different, were there another one present that day?”
The professor, G’Roth’s vessel, was here too, but none of the transcripts tell of him being down here.
Bill got a weird sensation there had been someone else here. “Let’s follow where they walked, see if we can find a way out.”
As they walked, they came to an area that looked like a square above them. Ar’Thyl noticed a slightly glowing spot on the wall beside them. Look, there.

Bill moved closer to see. “It looks like another button. I’ll place my pendant there and see what happens.” He did so and was surprised when the pendant disappeared into the wall, leaving him only with the lanyard around his neck. The walls started making noise, and a small stripe of Light appeared above them.
He moved close to his Aludim as the square above them divided into four slices, and like a shutter made of stone it opened.
Climb up, we’ll fly out. Ar’Thyl bent down to let Bill climb up before he leapt into the opening and heard screams all around. They were indeed at the pyramids of Teotihuacán. Around them were many tourists and locals admiring the ancient structures.
Phones flashed. They heard “Another one!”, “cool!”, “I’m live!” From all around.
Bill quietly said, “The media is going to love this.”
Unless the institutional narrative takes hold. We should fly back to Al’Edos I think…”
A woman made her way through the throng of people in front of them. as she came up to them, she called out; “Divine providence!” “Have you seen our son? Paolo? He disappeared two weeks ago, right here. In my dreams I’ve seen him with one of you… an Edroth, a golden one. Have you seen him?”

He woke up with a start, unsure if the dream had been real, or if it had been a gambit by some nefarious entity – or simply internalized limitations his own mind had assembled to describe who was helping them on their journey. He closed his eyes and shook his head, certain he’d get a cataract if he didn’t let it go. A cataract? No, hemorrhoids or something else that’s nasty
He centered himself and cleared his head once more, letting his mind counter those thoughts with how real the dream had seemed no deception, I’m positive!
What’s on your mind, Aludim? Ar’Thyl lifted his head to gaze at Bill.
“It’s nothing, my mind is playing tricks on me. I had a strange dream, that’s all.”
A strange dream?
“Yeah, there was a golden Edroth and a ball of Light larger than the sun – well, larger than it appears in the normal sky.”
Golden Edroth? Hmm none of our records indicate such a color pattern, purple – yes. But not golden.
“I’m sure it was nothing.” Bill tried to deflect. He knew the dream had felt real, but the details were already slipping. “Oh! Joy! More sandwiches. And what’s this?” Around the food was a necklace of some kind, a lanyard, it looks like. At the end of the loop was a small stone, threaded through and fastened at the end.
What might that do? It radiates power, whatever it is.
“I don’t know, but I hope we’ll get out of here soon. My mind goes to strange places in here.” Louder than it should.
I’m sure we will find our way out soon, Aludim. Ready to move?
Bill gathered the remaining sandwiches in his satchel and held the lanyard in his hand, debating what he should do. Nodding to himself, he placed his head through the loop and put it on. “Ready as I’ll ever be!

He opened his eyes, finding himself in a bright space, how serendipitous! We’re free! He sent to Ar’Thyl, but no reply came. Ar’Thyl? Bill backed up into a corner, trying to make sense of where he was. Am I back home, did none of this even happen?
He was sitting in a rocky area where he could hear water from beyond his little hide. He pushed a curl of his hair out of his eyes and got up. Beyond the rocky outcrop he could see a large lake. The sun was right above, shining strongly. That’s not the sun, he thought with certainty. That is a ball of Light – magnitudes larger than the one I made.
He shivered. A fear running through him that whoever had brought him here was someone vicious or any other philosophical crackpot. Water stirred directly in front of him startling him as a bright golden Edroth rose up from the water.
Who are you? A voice asked Bill.
“I’m Bill, who are you, where am I?”
I’m Temozin. You are not my Aludim, but you are bonded. Peculiar. You are in my dream. This is the place I go to when I dream.
“How can I be in your dream?”
That I do not know, only my Aludim, Paolo, has joined me here before. This place is based on a memory of the city where I grew up. Over there is the city. Temozin indicated with his snout.
To that side Bill could see a hill covered in stone buildings, a mast standing out towards the middle of the hill. The city was shining in the golden Light, its splendor was breathtaking.
But you shouldn’t be here. Temozin said. Tell me, what do you remember?
“We were battling Dreth with our friends when suddenly, well, after an attack we found ourselves in a tunnel. We’ve been making our way back the past couple of days. Me and my Aludim, Ar’Thyl. We think we’re close to the surface again.”
The Edroth pondered this for a moment. I think you are in the tunnels of the Others. Some places are full of them. They…
Bill tried to listen, but the golden city flickered and he found himself drawn from the dream and into a dark void…

They walked through endless tunnels, occasionally passing through larger hallways but they didn’t see any more windows. The only light was the ball of light Bill maintained.
He was getting cranky – he knew it. He didn’t normally consider himself bitter or timid, but the way he huffed and puffed told Ar’Thyl otherwise.
I know we are in a situation outside of our control, but I do not condone these negative thoughts you are displaying, Aludim. We will find a way out of here, wherever here is.
Bill sighed. “I know. It was a fortune for us to wake up, knowing we were taken care of. I still long for fresh air and home. And I miss him. You know that. I don’t know if we are a thing, but I miss him!”
I know, I can feel you. Ar’Thyl tried to console his Aludim. We’ve been away for too long. Home is important for us all. But we must face this challenge and persevere. We will find our home.
Bill smiled. “You’re right.” He hugged his friend. “We’ll find our way. It does seem we’re walking up more than before.”
Yes, it appears so. I do wish the tunnels were more cave-like, so I could stretch my wings occasionally though.
They continued walking in silence for another few hours. Noticing the stone in the walls becoming less smooth and made of different types of rock. Bill thought that meant they were moving through layers of the past while walking through the system they found themselves in.
I see you are getting tired, Aludim. I suggest the next suitable area we find, we hunker down for a few hours to rest.
Bill stretched, “I wonder how many steps we’ve done these past couple of days. I need to get one of those watches!” He laughed. “Yeah, let’s stop soon. There are caves every once in a while, I’m sure we’ll get to one soon.”
It took them another hour or so before they came to a larger space, allowing for Ar’Thyl to stretch properly. There was a stone slab similar to the bed he’d woken up on this morning, and behind it a plate of something that looked like a br…

You are right. Ar’Thyl sniffed the plate. I do wish we’d learn more about them. What are these people you spoke of? When we come back to Al’Edos we’ll need to research in the archives.
Bill nodded, “I’ll tell you about them some other time. It’s about being lured into a false sense of security.” He tasted the food, before he practically inhaled the plate. “That was delicious!” He yawned. “Think I’m ready to kip. Do you have enough space over there?”
Don’t worry about me, I’m fine, I have plenty of space. You need rest. Sleep well Aludim.
Bill laid himself down on the slab, amazed at how comfortable it was. He let his light go out, letting the darkness comfort his sleepy eyes as he drifted off to sleep.

No need to be obsessed with where we are. We are safe, wherever this is, and there seems to be enough food there to last you a day. Ar’Thyl sounded confident.
Bill sighed and poured himself a glass from the pitcher. The liquid looked like water, but when he put the glass to his lips the scent seemed different, sweeter. He took a careful sip, yum! “It tastes like distilled sunlight on a spring day!”
Interesting, whoever is helping us is from an advanced race. I wonder why we’ve not heard of them? Are they unknown?
Bill was about to take a bite of one of the sandwiches when he paused. “There aren’t any known races of underground civilizations. But there are myths, fairies, and djinn and other fae folk. Dragons too, as you know.”
You did read in our history, you know our eldest elders were once on the earth, one inspired the myth of the Welsh dragon, the other a story of a saint.
“I remember, the dragon in that myth was a Dreth, who pretended to be a god, demanding virgins and gold in tribute.”
That is the skeletal framework of it, yes.”
“Skeletal framework? I think you mean a gist! The gist of it!”
I think you’re right. Though, remember that what you hear when I speak is your mind interpreting my intent, not actual words…
“So my brain caused me to hear about skeletons? Creepy!” The thought really made him uncomfortable. He had a worry that they never would get out of these caves. Lessened by this morning’s abundance of food and drink, but still present.
He noticed a backpack, or rather, a satchel stowed behind the food tray, and stuffed the remaining sandwiches into it along with the pitcher of that strange water and a glass into it.
Bill looked around, threw the satchel over his shoulder and looked at Ar’Thyl; “Ready?”

I feel a slight tilt downwards to the right, so if we think we should go up, let’s take the left. Ar’Thyl sounded calm, not as withdrawn as he had been a few moments ago.
“Okay,” Bill replied, his head thinking about what could’ve led them to get here, how they could make their way out. Nothing. No clue, might as well have my head in the nonexistent clouds, or go full orbital.
Bill’s legs ached as the hours passed. Their footsteps merging to a drumbeat leading them on. The vast distance highlighting how far from everyone else they were. Occasionally they came to windows that showed them anything from unrefined nature to a starry sky. The windows seemed to be some sort of advanced display, showing then impossible scenes. like we’re criminals in an advanced, torturous prison cell, condemned to only look out.
Bill had withdrawn into his mind long before. The silence suited him, it required nothing. Their walk became one of silent contemplation. After hours, Ar’Thyl finally nudged his Aludim.
“Don’t tell me you’re as hungry as I am, ready to eat me?”
Ar’Thyl’s laughter rumbled in his mind. You know very well we Edroth sustain ourselves on our connection to the Light, we find it peculiar how you and most creatures in today’s world do not.
“You once say the Edroth were… what we call dinosaur, rights? How one of them connected with the cosmic Conciousness, and was given access to Light and was given the first soul?”
Your memory is right, that is our written history. Our belief if you will. But, I understand your physical needs, and even we need regular rest.
Bill couldn’t but agree. In their intimate surroundings there were just the two of them. He sighed, “let’s keep walking. Maybe we’ll find somewhere to relax sometime, if not we’ll just lay down in the hallway. I think I have another mile or two in me though.”

“Don’t tell me you’re as hungry as I am, ready to eat me?” Ar’Thyl’s laughter rumbled in his mind. You know very well we Edroth sustain ourselves on our connection to the Light, we find it peculiar how you and most creatures in today’s world do not. “You once say the Edroth were… what we call dinosaur, rights? How one of them connected with the cosmic Conciousness, and was given access to Light and was given the first soul?” Your memory is right, that is our written history. I think I have another mile or two in me though.” #VSSFantasy Intimacy #VSS365 Orbital #VSSDaily Criminal #VSSMagic Calm #Emoetry withdrawn #WIPSnips Highlight #WeirdMicro Unrefined Nature

Bill opened his eyes to pitch darkness. He could feel Ar’Thyl unconscious next to him. Well, this is unexpected. Where am I? He smelled still air, which told him he was somewhere enclosed and probably below ground.
Feeling vulnerable, he reached for the Light, and felt it flow into him. His shields usually glowed, so he attempted to shape a round shield the size of a tennis ball, and created it filled with Light. It worked! The little sphere lit up the space reasonably well, he could see small points of something reflective above – almost like looking up at the stellar sky.
Around them were veins of translucent, slightly reflective, stone. It was, like being in the middle of an alien opaline grove. He jumped when he felt a slight movement behind him.
“How are you doing big guy?”
Ar’Thyl lifted his head, blinking his eyes. I’m sore. I’ve never been sore before, like I was beaten with heavy objects. I did not consent to this!
“Neither of us did, Aludim. We’re somewhere underground. Can you remember what happened?”
We were helping the others battle the Dreth invasion, we were almost done, then earth rushed towards us I thought of protecting you and I lost consciousness.

“We don’t appear to be in the dirt, but somewhere else. I hope we’re ok though…”
We will be, I feel no contempt or ill will here, no Dreth either. We should find a way out of here though, do you think you can make a stronger light?
“I don’t know – let me see!” Bill examined the little sphere he had made previously, how the Light swirled lazily within. He didn’t want to accidentally create a new sun, not that he thought he could, but maybe if he channeled a little more Light inside the sphere it could work. Letting the Light flow through him he did so, and watched the illumination increase with regular intervals.
That’s the way! Now, can you make it move with us? Or make more?
Bill tried moving the sphere above him, rather than in the middle of the room. Examining the thin stream of Light that connected him to the sphere, asking it to stay there, relative to him. He smiled when the feeling of acceptance flowed from the sphere back to him.
“I think so, let’s try to find our way out, but which way should we go?

Antin and Nyx went on a rampage, their commitment surprised neither Tori nor Elijah. The last Dreth fell soon after. Landing near the others, Antin begged Elijah to open up the earth to find their friends.
“I can’t sense them anywhere,” he said, eyes downcast.
“But they can’t just – disappear?” Antin said, feeling tense.
Nick and Zack landed near the others, and Nick bent to touch the ground. His eyes turned white as he delved into the future. Opening them he nodded knowingly, “I think they are ok. I don’t know where they are – it’s like the details are blocked, but their future still exists.”
Residual guilt gnawed at Antin. He should have seen that attack. Heartless bastards! Now it felt like his world was empty.
Zhe’ra came up, eccentric and fierce. “I know my great grandson will be ok; Castor and I both feel it. Both he and Ar’Thyl are fine. Somewhere the Light only knows.
