#MyPerfectSongs Part 34 of
"Not Bothering Anymore" by Me
I thought it would be fun to post these on a new network. But honestly, it's just a gateway to reading about how terrible everything is (just on a different network). Adding this to my "sites to avoid" list and going for a nice walk outside.

#MyPerfectSongs Part 33 of The Artful Dodger do it like that
"Rewind" by Craig David/Artful Dodger
UK garage in all the best ways With slinky, sexy tempo shifts, the Artful Dodger namedrop was perfect (I was DJing at Chicago's Artful Dodger Bar when this came out) I played it in every set for years
#MyPerfectSongs Part 32 of I've got scars that can't be seen
"Lazarus" by David Bowie
Another one where the whole record is perfect - but this sums it up. It came out of nowhere, blew everyone away, and then he passed away like 3 days later. A final masterpiece on his way out seems very Bowie-like
#MyPerfectSongs Part 30 of We're Gonna Be Up Late
"All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem
A droning keyboard line that seemingly goes nowhere and everywhere all at once... and then it all builds
Art kids and dance music have always been good friends, LCD kinda wraps this up and puts a bow on it.
#myPerfectSongs Part 28 of Mid-90s
"Rotten Apple" by Alice in Chains
I was never a huge fan of this band in general, but I love this whole EP. This is one that really should be listed with all seven songs included (which is partially why I chose the first track). Find a nice couch, and turn it up
#myPerfectSongs Part 26 of Best cover ever
"Black Steel" by Tricky (Public Enemy Cover)
takes some nerve to do a cover of Public Enemy and replace the best voice in Hip Hop history (Chuck D) with a female vocalist and a big guitar line... it's perfect. The cover is equal to the original.
#myPerfectSongs Part 25 of the crew is me. the crew is you. yeah, we’re the crew.
"Leave a light on " by 7 seconds
Not sure how I made it all the way to #25 without mentioning 7 Seconds.
Styles have changed over the years, but the constant of good, positive, solid songs hasn’t.
#myPerfectSongs Part 24 of Let the Drummer Get some
"Moral Kiosk" by R.E.M.
When I think of R.E.M., it's mostly about the jangly guitars. But this one is really all about the drums (I mean, the guitar work is also top-notch here), but it's the up-front driving drums that make this one.
#myPerfectSongs Part 23 of Big shimmery guitars
"is this the are" by diiv
Dream Pop is kinda a dumb name of a music genre, but then again if the shoegaze fits…
This is also a repeater. Odds are when I hear it, it’s going to get repeated a few times.
#myPerfectSongs Part 22 of Crate diggin'
"Midnight in a perfect world" by DJ Shadow
I view this through the eyes of a skater. Skaters look at mundane items with a different eye, a pool, a curb, a handrail, and imagine the possibilities
Shadow did the same with his crazy deep collection of records
#myPerfectSongs Part 21 of A drowning of the past
"Swim until you can't see land" by Frightened Rabbit
A tough song, and more so after the lead singer took his own life, but beautiful. I read after his death "I wish Scott was able to hear his music as we did and let it help him as it helps us"
#myPerfectSongs Part 20 of And in comes the 2 to the 3
"Warning Shots" by Thievery Corporation
Breaks and dancehall and all the goodness.
#myPerfectSongs Part 19 of Ridiculously Good Builds
"Keeping Warm" by We Were Promised Jetpacks
If you have ever had the chance to see the Jetpacks live, you will know that this one is always a highlight. The slow build that keeps going and going...
live version of it here from @kexp.bsky.social
#myPerfectSongs Part 18 of Nerdiness
"Red Barchetta" by RUSH
Rush gets lots of hate for being overly complicated, nerdy and sooo 70's, but honestly, those are all the things that make them great. This just sounds like WLAV in the late 70's early 80's, and I am OK with that.
#myPerfectSongs Part 17 of Just dance
"Hello" by Martin Solveig & Dragonette
a perfect pop dance record. Super fun, great hook and when it kicks in… yeah be like coach beard (if you get the reference, you are in the right place). the video is one of my all time favs. Great story in under 4 minutes
#myPerfectSongs Part 16 of Riot Fest
"Suspect Device" by Stiff Little Fingers (and Naked Raygun)
I Heard the NR Verison, then the original one by Stiff Little Fingers. Both amazing and shows how influeunces can drive discovery. Video from Riot Fest 2006 Naked Raygun brought out Jake Burns to sing
#myPerfectSongs Part 15 of Madchester
"Waterfall" by The Stone Roses
Whenever I hear this song, odds are I will flip it on repeat for 4-5 more listens in a row. It's that good.
Such a fun and weird groove, that simple guitar lick, all the bagginess... and indie rock re-learns how to dance.
#myPerfectSongs Part 14 of Mushroom Jazz
"Comin' Thru" by Chali 2na
One of the best voices in hip hop (and, of course, a member of Jurassic 5) produced by Dj Numark (also of J5). First heard this as a track on Mushroom Jazz 5. Such a good beat- and can't argue with the "verbal Herman Munster."
#myPerfectSongs Part 13 of For the Youth
"Ocean Eyes" by Billie Eilish
At a certain point, you hope your kids have decent musical taste- for many reasons, but mostly so they can share the new stuff with you that doesn't suck.
A few years back, this one came across, and it's just so hauntingly good
#myPerfectSongs Part 12 of bluegrass
"Away from the Mire" by Billy Strings
I grew up running around in the dirt at bluegrass festivals in michigan. But then discovered punk, hip hop etc and kinda let bluegrass be. still love the music and then I saw this one.
Live version, because wow.
#myPerfectSongs Part 11 of 5 dollar shows
"Furniture" by Fugazi
From a bootleg cassette of the first sessions they did that floated around, and never released until much later. This shows the early promise of what Fugazi would become, the most important post-hardcore band ever.
#myPerfectSongs Part 10 of Doo-doo Rhymes
"Sure Shot" by Beastie Boys
I may have been caught lip-syncing along to this while pushing a shopping cart through Meijer, pretending that Spike Jones is following me around with a Fish-eye lens on his camera.
Because you can't you won't and you don't stop
#myPerfectSongs Part 9 of Big Beats
"Exit Planet Dust - Side D" by Chemical Brothers
D1 Chico's Groove
D2 One Too Many Mornings
D3 Alive Alone
Three songs for the price of one.The order on the original US vinyl (because that's the way my brain needs to hear them). Later releases changed the order.
#myPerfectSongs Part 8 of Dischord
"Values Here" by Dag Nasty
I couldn't let the first 10 of these pass without at least one Dag Nasty song.
Saw them open for the Descendents (see song #5), and the melodic vocals and guitar work hooked me immediately, one of my all-time favorite records
#myPerfectSongs Part 7 of fix your mouth and learn how to say Stetsasonic
"Talking all that jazz" by Stetsasonic
While we are on the topic of baselines. This one!
A call to defense for sampling and all the genius it entails. Prince Paul making magic, main sample - Lonnie Liston Smith's expansions
#myPerfectSongs Part 6 of Basslines
"Primary" by The Cure
The perfect Cure song... yup. All the basses, the spacey vocals, that chorus!
Sounds like the 80s in all the best ways.
"The very first time I saw your face
I thought of a song and quickly changed the tune"

#myPerfectSongs Part 5 of Didn't want to grow up
"Full Circle" by Descendents
A love letter to the early 80's LA punkby my favorite band and one of the best to come out of that time. Clocking in a tight 1:54 like a good hardcore song should.
It's not nostalgia if you keep putting out good songs!
#myPerfectSongs Part 4 of UK Garage
"Latch" by Disclosure
Out in 2013 with great house vibes and a heavy nod to UK Garage, this whole record hit just right at the right time. Sam Smith on vocals and crazy good production... perfect. Kinda made me want to start DJing again.

#myPerfectSongs Part 3 of 01110010 01100101 01111010
"Rez" by Underworld
The best example of electronic music that I have ever found. Put it on AT VOLUME and let it build over you. Even if it's not your cup of tea, stay with it... you won't regret it.

#myPerfectSongs Part 2 of "Cabaret Voltaire"
"So Digital" by Richard H.Kirk
It's Tough to pick a perfect song from a perfect album, but here we are. "The Number of Magic" was Released by Cabaret Voltaire's Richard H. Kirk in 1995 but could have been released tomorrow.
