I stg even the older stuff we read stays relevant —-one of my favorite anecdotes in here is that Lenny is a diner guy , also think Halberstram sums him up wonderfully in Breaks of the game as a player coach . Hod Speed Lenny , thanks for the joy. #nbabookclub

From Sam Anderson who wrote Boomtown , in the last year and a half maybe the #nbabookclub read Boomtown and The real Hoosiers and I honestly can’t stop thinking about either although maybe the more apt Indiana tome would be Loose Balls
Discussions about a four-day workweek, or intentional spaces for mindfulness and meditation at the workplace, are expressions of the evolving demand for a fundamental right to sanctuary. “

“You can’t coach a game like basketball. You play it.” Allen disagreed. He had come to believe there was a “correct” way to play basketball—assigned player positions on the court and strict, coach-dictated plays—and he insisted it be adhered to rigidly”

❝ And let me be clear: I am not opposed to hustles, and I am certainly not opposed to hustling. When I say I came up around hustlers, I mean that I know what it takes to keep the lights on and so I’ve rarely been in the dark. ❞

One thing that I didn’t think alot about when I started doing the #nbabookclub was how much black history and civil rights history would be embedded in so many of the books —here are some of the best ones (attempt at chronological) I recommend for people who read or listen to books 📚 ⬇️
Absolutely incredible chapter in #boomtown about Clara Luper and her students 6 year campaign to desegregate OKC businesses —follows other stories of black excellence and racist violence throughout the states history #nbabookclub
Hilariously topical history book —-man he is such an incredibly engaging storyteller #boomtown #nbabookclub #nba #okc
Boomtown is an excellent read so far and I’m at the part where Presti trades James Harden . Just such a stark difference in philosophy and consistency between Presti and multiple FOS in Sacramento #nbabookclub #boomtown
Just recommending this as just a for funsies read outside of anything else , total page turner and excellent entertaining writing style #differentdude

Just finished this and man what an incredibly well told funny , incredible and sometimes painful story of where basketball can take you . Rods voice is so vulnerable and honest and his experiences on an and off the court are so entertaining !
