6/ So anyone thinking the next round of #newgTLDs is a done deal, don't forget that #ICANN, a subject of US law, may find that all the hard work of the global Internet community over the past few years to develop the 2026 new gTLD Applicant Guidebook could easily be undone by an Executive Order.

4/ Other governments will probably want tweaks to the #newgTLDs policies, too, they see the strings being applied for. This was largely quashed last time because the US & its then allies strongly supported keeping policies the community had developed. But the US may not be of the same mind now.

3/ It's also not inconceivable the US govt might want to adjust the global community-developed policies for #newgTLDs more widely. Some #ICANN GAC members wanted to do this in the 1st round, when they saw the sorts of applications coming in. (The US defended keeping the policies unchanged back then)

1/ The US administration made final negotiations on UNGA's #WSIS+20 resolution a bit tense, so I'm wondering if news of Trump-related 2nd level domains being bought for satire might renew the administration's interest in #ICANN, especially given the next round of #newgTLDs just around the corner.
