My own variation on the Puritan, a relative of the Alaska. 2 oz gin; 1/4 oz each yellow chartreuse, dry vermouth, and blanc vermouth; 2 dashes orange bitters; lemon twist. Ho ho ho. #nightlycocktailreport

Multiple bartenders have told me that Punt e Mes is their go-to vermouth in this cocktail. And I almost always use rye. Made this one tonight for the holidays, and it's good. #nightlycocktailreport

A Black Manhattan for #RepealDay. 2 oz rye, 1 oz Averna, 2 dashes each Angostura and orange bitters. Raising it to the memory of the federal government undoing a catastrophically stupid decision. Hey, it can happen. #nightlycocktailreport

In a mezcal and Cynar mood, so time for the aptly-named Money in the Bank, where both are used to add smoke and nuance to gin. 1.5 oz dry gin, .5 oz each mezcal, Cynar, and Meletti. Orange twist. #nightlycocktailreport

Still thinking about the Unlikely Detour at the Zig Zag Cafe last night. Toki Japanese whiskey, blanc vermouth, Amaro Alpeggio (an herbal hay liqueur), and raspberry eau de vie, served over ice. Like summer in a glass. #nightlycocktailreport

For multiple reasons, today calls for a Sharpie Mustache. Equal parts (.75 oz) gin, rye, Meletti, and Bonal. 2 dashes tiki bitters. Serve over big ice in a chilled old-fashioned glass. Orange twist. #nightlycocktailreport

WTF, might as well have a drink, and a new one to me while I'm at it. Tara McLaughlin, another former Zig Zag bartender, concocted the Mingo Creek.

1.5 oz rye, .5 oz each Cynar and Carpano Antica vermouth, .25 oz dry vermouth, 1 dash Ango bitters. Flamed orange peel. #nightlycocktailreport

So many great local beers at Here Today's Best Buds Fest - tonight 'til close! - but the specialty cocktail the Secret Handshake wins the day. Tin Cup bourbon, apricot, lime, Underberg (!), grapefruit sherbet (?), and soy sauce (?!?). Don't miss out. #nightlycocktailreport

Smoky and bittersweet. I'll make this one again.

A weird last working day of the year - I'm still gonna be doing stuff, but let's be honest, no one will be returning calls until January - so the only recourse is the finest drink known to humanity, the Red Hook. Rye, Punt e Mes, maraschino, cherries. #nightlycocktailreport

1 oz bourbon
.75 oz lemon juice

I'm a fan of the Bywater, a rum riff on the Brooklyn. Why not a Rye Water, which takes things full circle and swaps out the rum for rye?

2 oz rye
.75 oz Averna
.5 oz green chartreuse
.25 oz Falernum
2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
Cherry garnish

I've rewatched THE SHINING twice this year and belatedly caught up with DOCTOR SLEEP (2019) last week, so it's little wonder I'm drinking a Hedge Maze.

1.5 oz gin
.5 oz blanc vermouth
.25 oz green chartreuse

Negronis are always good.
Kingston Negronis, made with overproof Jamaican rum, are also always good.
Bridgetown Negronis, made with coconut rum (ideally Planteray Cut & Dry from Barbados), may be my new favorite thing.
