#NoDriverInvolved

Why is it that the BBC are terrified of putting suspicion on drivers ("Pedestrian dies after colliding with car").

The BBC News team must have a style guide which prefers no mention of drivers and disallows them being the active subject of a sentence.

Deserves a #NoDriverInvolved. We have to wait until the last paragraph to discover that a driver and passenger were unwitting victims of the car they were in.

Two adults and a teenager die after crash on M5 motorway Police have said a second child suffered serious injuries and is in hospital following the single-vehicle collision on Friday night.

On Sky News on the radio, 3 stories involved misuse of cars, 4 hurt - deliberate running over after argument, 3 dead - loss of control on the M5 & the Liverpool rampage.

The BMW autonomous driving system was responsible for the M5 incident, as far as I can tell.

May I commend the hashtag #NoDriverInvolved for future articles, of which, no doubt, there will be many?

A fine example of the local paper's reporting.

And the 4 people killed were only tangentially related to the incident it appears.

You missed the #NoDriverInvolved tag for that article, a classic example of the genre.

Not one mention of a driver in the article, nor whether there was even anyone in the vehicle.

It had to happen. The out of control barber shop, probably uninsured and without MOT, appears to have lost control.

May I recommend the hashtag #nodriverinvolved for any example of suggesting autonomous motor vehicles were responsible in some way.

I keep my eye open for "Building collides with car" attempt at avoiding apportioning blame (see also "cyclist collides with car" or "pedestrian collides with car").

Also, using the Police Accident when it is accepted that that language is supposed to be deprecated.

The BBC do seem determined to use a word order that avoids drivers being the actor in any collision

(I'd also want to offer some constructive feedback if a car collided with me).
