There are six components to every endogroup: • An identity which enables exclusive membership. • An exceptional myth justifying unequal entitlement. • An existential threat from external forces. • An idealized source of collective reality, the endo-ideal, residing in a person or ideology. • A negative image, made up of people identified as opposite the ideal. • Reflectors which may exist separately from the negative image in groups of more than two. A dictatorship is formed by assembling and strengthening these components. We can reverse engineer an endogroup by removing and weakening each component that holds it together. As each element is removed or disabled, the structure of power will start to crumble. Without the structure, a dictatorship is just one or a few people facing the entire population.
