311 received 39727 rodent complaints in 2024, down from 41748 in 2023. That is a decrease of 4.84 percent. But keep in mind that 311 complaints only measure reported sightings of rats, not necessarily the actual number of rats in the city.
This map breaks down 311 rat complaints by neighborhood. Certain neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Manhattan appear to have the highest number of rat complaints. By neighborhood, we are referring to Neighborhood tabulation areas, which are approximations of neighborhoods created for reporting census data.
