Horatio was born into a wealthy family of the Black Fraction. His parents separated when he was little, he lived with his mother and didn't really knew his father.
He grew up with Mordecai as a close friend, whom he later started dating. When they broke up and Mordecai ran away from home, Horatio tried to forget him and their relationship, but he could never really let go of it.
Only in his mid-twenties, when he was engaged to a woman (arranged marriage) and had a good job as an accountant he decided to leave his old life behind when he got into a bus accident.

John grew up with his parents and his little brother Laurel in the Slums of Capitalia.
Laurel was Virubis who didn't possess any powers, but needed special help due to various diseases. When John was old enough to move out from home, he took Laurel with him and started working for the Resistance of the Red Fraction as a computer scientist, to help with building the digital data system. There, he also met Commander Natasha Langley, who he later started dating.
However, his life was shaken to it's very foundations when his work attracted the interest of the Government. They caught him, held him captive and wanted to force him to work for them, but John was able to flee. When he made it back to his apartment, he found Laurel lifeless. Olivier and his younger brother Chris grew up in a single-parent houshold with their mother. Both Chris and Olivier never knew their father, Olivier suspects them acually being half-brothers with different fathers but has no proof of that.
When he was 16 years old he moved out together with Chris, as their mother often had violent outbursts that she led out on Chris, because he's a Virubis.
Olivier's dream was acually to become a lawyer, but due to him being part of the Red Fraction he wasn't allowed to go to university. He grew up in a governmental orphanage together with other Virubi like him. When he was about 7 years old he was adopted by Dr. East, a prestigious plastic surgeon of the Black Fraction's high society. Dr. East did care good for him, taught him how to read and write, but May was also used as a "guinea pig" for a variety of experimental surgeries, conducted by either Dr. East himself or one of his apprentice. The more he was operated on, the worse his bodily health got.
When May one day woke up after a long anesthesia he noticed that the house, which he wasn't allowed to leave, was empty. Mordecai was born into a wealthy family of the Black Fraction. Due to a genetic disorder he is not able to feel pain. He grew up with a physical violent father, an alcoholic mother and an older brother who was always the "better" son. His only friend was Horatio, whom he later started dating. But after they broke up eventually, Mordecai decided to leave his family and home behind and fled to the slums of the Red Fraction at age 14.
There he met his first girlfriend, Alice, who played in a street punk band. They always hung out together and committed minor crimes such as burglary, damage to property, etc. When they once tried to rob a gas station they got caught by the police. The situation escalated and Alice got shot by one of the cops. Mordecai took over the situation and shot multiple cops but he eventually got caught and was sent to jail.
There they quickly found out that Mordecai was immune to pain, so he was sent to a lab instead, where he first "met" Erik. They were not able to talk to each other but they saw each other through the glass walls of their cells.
Mordecai stayed in the lab for 4 years until he was able to escape during and emergency situation: A bus broke through the wall of the lab and multiple inmates fled to the streets. Hiro is a Virubis who possesses metal bending powers.
He grew up in a government lab, where scientists experimeted on him. When he had to train on his powers he got harder to get a hold of, as he tried multiple times to run away by unscrewing the locks on his door.
He spent the first 20 years of his life at the lab until he was able to escape during a emergency situation: A bus broke through the walls of the lab and multiple inmates fled to the streets. For the first time he had to take care of himself. He lived from stealing clothes and food and slept in abandoned buildings. This worked fine during late summer but when fall arrived he knew he needed somewhere to stay. As Hiro liked to go out to the forrest to collect nuts and fruits he eventually got snared in a live trap.
