The store, owned by the Egyptian state, has been closed years ago. It is in a very sorry state. In June 2025, Misr Hotels announced that it will turn the old Omar Effendi Building into a four-star hotel. Let us hope it will be realized. Source: the Arab Today.

Omar Effendi, Cairo. Built 1905-1906 as a flagship department store after a design by French architect Raoul Brandon. Originally named Orosdi-Back, it was named Omar Effendi as of 1921.
