As always, the display of birds killed by building strikes and collected by @safewingsottawa.bsky.social is a sobering reminder of how much more we can do as a city and society to prevent bird deaths.

Apparently this is a Northern Hawk Owl so say the birders across from Billings Bridge along the Rideau. Sorry, only a crappy phone photo. #ottBird also, @rideauwintertrail.bsky.social skiing

Small bird being released butt-first back into the world, having been caught in a white cloth. The splayed tail shows two pale yellow bars on the underside of the tail.

OK #ottbird: what kind of bird is this?
It flew into my workshop this morning and spent the day flying around the ceiling in varying degrees of distress. Finally I guess it was tired out enough that I could scoop it up in a cloth and let it go outside. Dark grey topside, yellow bars under tail.

Stopped on my ride home because NEW BIRD. I think it's a Brant: size of a Mallard, with short neck, small head, and a faint white patch on the neck. #ottbird
