My original character, Atharia Fenn Hallidor, one of the merfolk-adjacent characters in my novel. In lore they are called Syrvei and the ones of nobility can shapeshift into full Sea Serpent forms. Notable traits of Syrvei are how they have Axolotl-inspired ears when they appear humanoid. Their tails are often reminiscent of Mantis Shrimps. Syrvei can freely shift into their land walker form or their aquatic form when exposed to water long enough. Fun fact: They're very picky about the water they drink and can taste the flavors in them.
