🌍 Martial eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) The martial eagle is a large, powerful bird of prey with dark brown upperparts, a short crest, and white underparts heavily spotted with black. Females are larger than males. It inhabits open woodlands, savannas, and grasslands across much of sub-Saharan Africa, favoring areas with large trees for nesting and perching. This solitary eagle is often seen soaring at great heights while hunting. It has exceptional eyesight, enabling it to spot prey from kilometers away before swooping down for the kill. Its diet consists mainly of medium to large-sized birds, mammals, and reptiles. Martial eagles are generally shy and maintain large territories. No subspecies are recognised.
