So my reframing of Karpathy's positive psychosis is something like: those who experience joy and other positive emotions while becoming entangled with AI technologies express something fundamental about what it means to be human in this moment. It's neither a purely instrumental (more productivity!) nor pathologically relational (Al is my partner!) use.
I think this final question is especially important so I'll try to offer my tentative answer: what I've seen so far suggests that, if there's something distinctive about AI, it's that the technology affords MORE INTENSE connections than previous technologies, for better and worse. This means the risks are heightened along with the benefits. We're wired, as humans, to augment and extend ourselves. We crave working with technology to navigate the world. The chatbot interface plugs right into this need in a powerful way. So it's perfectly "natural," but perhaps we're still adjusting to this particular pharmacological dose. Things will be weird for awhile.

A collection of 12 prosthetic arms. They appear as follows: 1) an arm made entirely of wood panels and vines. 2) a modern looking bionic arm. 3) A cybernetic arm that appears to weave cable like muscle fibers. 4) A carved, wooden prothetic with a shoulder crank for a spool of thread acting as the forearm. The hand is wooden block that holds three crochet hooks acting as fingers. 5) a carved wooden arm with three fingers that is completely pulley operated. 6) A reed woven arm that looks more like an unfinished basket, or chinese finger trap. Strands dangle at the end resembling fingers. 7) A sleek, black hydralic arm. 8) A mechanical arm that appears to a winch cable as the wrist. 9) A cybernetic arm that resembles an ipod shuffle, with the ring on the back of the hand. A keyboard seems to be set into the forarm. 10) A mechanical arm cuff that emits emits a lavander hardlight arm, with three claws on its hand. 11) A bionic limb cap with two violet vials inserted into the side. A violet slime tendril oozes from the colander-like ports on the underside of the cuff. 12) An arm made entirely a series of cables. A wrist cuff seperates the neatly spun forearm from the unyielding writhing cable ends that would be the hand.
