While Raspberry Pi’s credit card-sized computers are positioned as general purpose computers with ARM-based processors, the R2S features a RISC-V processor, four wired network ports (two Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports), and no video output. In other words, it’s made for use as a network appliance and/or a development platform for folks that want to try their hand with RISC-V architecture. The Orange Pi R2S measures 79 x 46mm (3.1″ x 1.8″) and features the same Ky X1 processor as the Orange Pi RV2 that launched earlier this year. That chip is an 8-core RISC-V processor with CPU speeds up to 1.6 GHz, Imagination BXE-2-32 graphics, and up to 2 TOPS of AI performance. The board features LPDDR4X memory and eMMC storage, and comes in three versions: * 2GB RAM / 8GB storage for $30 * 4GB RAM / 8GB storage for $40 * 8GB RAM / 8GB storage for $50 While the board is listed at Amazon, right now it only seems to be available for purchase at AliExpress. According to Orange Pi, the board supports OpenWrt and Ubuntu operating systems, which should allow you to set it up as a router, firewall, filer server, or other network appliance.
