American journalist, activist and SuperGay Randy Shilts, best known for his biography of #HarveyMilk and “And the Band Played On”, his devastating account of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, was BOTD in 1951, and died of AIDS in 1994, aged 42. #randyshilts #supergays #bornonthisday #andthebandplayedon
Flying the friendly skies today! Off to L.A. to meet the wonderful people at @nlgja, the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists' Annual Convention. Looking forward to many fantastic conversations about one of their founding and most influential members, #RandyShilts.
My biography of #RandyShilts WHEN THE BAND PLAYED ON gets its first broadcast news coverage, courtesy of @KPIXtv. So honored to share the screen with Emmy and Peabody Award-winning reporter @HankPlante....
The first endorsement for my forthcoming book! Thank you @HankPlante for sharing your enjoyment of #WhentheBandPlayedOn , the biography of #RandyShilts @ChiReviewPress
Later today I’ll be participating in a panel discussion on the work of #RandyShilts at the annual @nlgja conference in Chicago. So grateful to @EricBMarcus for organizing this opportunity! 🏳️🌈
Sad news from the family of #RandyShilts. Gary Shilts was Randy's oldest brother, a bankruptcy attorney, and one-time Libertarian candidate for Governor of Illinois. /1

I just found out that Andrew Stoner, who authored the 2019 academic biography of #RandyShilts, has passed away at age 57. We corresponded early in my research and he was very encouraging to me. Very sorry to learn this news.
Just got a little choked up writing this line, from an interview with one of my gay military sources: “I knew they were following me, but now, what I was telling my command the whole time was, ‘Yes, #RandyShilts and I are friends. So, you guys are screwed.’” #ConductUnbecoming
Today’s arrival. No stone left unturned. #RandyShilts
