Totally agree.

The 25 Greatest Picture Books of the Century There’s been a revolution in children’s storytelling—and it’s not just that the stories are more diverse.

Just finished perusing this list on my prep time…
It has absolutely stellar book recs 📚👍
Some of my absolute faves are here. #ReadAlike recs are fab too.

This would be especially helpful for #TLsky & #skybrarians newer to Libraryland, wanting to know what they’ve missed.

Enhancing Library Engagement Through Book Menus – Canadian School Libraries Journal

Interesting read via @cdnschoollibrary.bsky.social journal, re: “Book Menus” for #ReadAlike suggestions, book recs, in high schools. Very adaptable.

Rocking your #LibrarianFashion.
Especially love the vibrant colour of that jacket!

(And Stick Dog/Stick Cat is a great series; good for Diary of a Wimpy Kid fans who need more adjacent styles of book, more #ReadAlike material.)

Catalogue record for Banned Book, by Jonah Winter and Gary Kelley. The cover shows a big black redact line across the middle, with the title stamped in white lettering over it; the background shows a book on a right leaning tilt with three devil heads peeking out from the pages. The book summary says, “"The words were dangerous." For as long as people have been expressing their opinions in writing, there have been those in positions of power who have succeeded in censoring those thoughts. In this timely and provocative parable, a book is first subjected to redaction, then removal from a library. What becomes of a banned book? Is it really just landfill fodder in the end? Readers must decide for themselves.”

Three pictures of the covers of the three GNs mentioned.
sandy and Tallulah are pictured here on the cover floating in front of their spaceship or space station windows. The book is by Molly Brooks.

The cover of Zita. A young space girl stands in a. White pants and tunic outfit with gray gloves and boots and a bright green cape flowing behind her while standing in a superhero arms akimbo pose. Lots of other space, scenery and space city scenery, plus some of the characters from the book are in the background.

The cover of Dumplins. A purple haired young girl and a funky space suit with giant gravity boots strides across a crunched robot while holding the hand of a strange alien character, and dragging behind her a chicken dress like a human professor. Lots of other space scenery in the background and there’s notably a giant whale-looking creature with open mouth floating towards her from the edge of the book.

Thinking Grace Needs Space could be easily turned into a #HatTrickLit of #FourScores space GN #ReadAlike festival by pairing it w/ Sanity & Tallulah, Zita the Space Girl, and/or Space Dumplins.

This is the next book that I’m picking up for #scifimonth2024. I can’t remember if this was a backup or random, but ive been wanting to pick this up for a while now. It was also recommended as a read alike- so here we are.

📚folks,
I do this thing where I do quick reviews of books I’m adding to the library, & WHY, then suggest #readalike pairings that I call #HaTrickLit or #FourScores — way to highlight new stuff & older stuff together.

Looks/sounds great.

Perhaps also a #ReadAlike companion for kids who enjoy the older You Wouldn’t Want to be series.

Sounds like a great lesson and a great book!
Think I need that on my future orders list. I think it will pair well with this probable #readalike
