Someone didn't want screws on the HD SC20? 😬 This is going to be a pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qof-Wjj_rWI #retroApple
Oh wow, seller just replied, they'll be back next week! 😃 Happy again! #retroApple
I found the link. Super bummed out by this. I was going to order only after testing the board, and now it's gone. Contacted the seller to see if they're going to build more, I hope so. 😭 #retroApple
Oh no, I think the LCD screens for the Mac Plus that were being sold on ETSY are sold out. :( Does anyone have the link for it? I can't find it anymore. #retroApple
What was the open source HW that did that (LocalTalk/Ethernet bridging)? I can’t recall. #RetroApple
This only took the entire day and two destroyed floppy disks. 😅 I need to see if one of them is still recoverable (is cleaning the disk surface with IPA a terrible idea? Because I did). To be fair, part of the afternoon was spent trying to get a System 6 image into the PowerBook 145 since it’s […]
The drive eject mechanism was stuck and everything was and quite dirty. Eject motor gears are still a train wreck since the gear that usually gets brittle got brittle, and it’s only being held by solidified grease. I have to get new gears made, I’m hoping […]

(ignore the beeps, that’s just DiskDup+ on the PowerBook being needy) #RetroApple
OMG I fixed it!!! 😁😁 It needed HEAD CLEANING but for reals! I used unreasonable force and now it’s booting! It’s super hard to clean the top head, but the bottom one took quite the beating.
Can’t wait to have video on this! 😃 #RetroApple
As curiosity, the logic analyzer is running on an RPi5. The only thing I have that powers it, due to USB-C shenanigans, is the Pi 5 adapter itself, which I was using before to power the PicoPSU that is feeding the Plus board. So now I have the Asus display powering the Mac Plus via USB-C using […]
So here’s the 3 video signals from the Mac Plus: V-sync, H-sync and video itself. We can clearly see the vertical synch impulse (orange), horizontal (green) and video (blue). First image is during a vertical blanking interval (with a global overview on the […]

And SCSI works! It’s booting whatever that old SCSI barely spinning disk has! 7.5 something I think. #RetroApple
Well, the Mac Plus motherboard works! Look at that video signal of the black and white boot pattern! 😁 #RetroApple

Does anyone know if the heatsink of a Lombard daughterboard can be removed, and how? I've replaced the heat pad, but it's still running quite hotter than the Pismo (and at 100Mhz less… the Pismo has a decent heat sink compared to this, but still), so I wonder […]

Maybe I’m still in time

A bit dusty but looks good! I don’t see any cap juice. #retroApple
Mandatory photo of the signatures! 😁 Also, it doesn’t look bad at all inside? Caps look ok… no corrosion from the battery terminals that leaked a bit. Kinda wonder if this would just work if I turned it on. But I’m more interested in the board for now. #retroApple
Time to start looking into this fellow! #retroApple

Does anyone have a video or guide on how to tear down an Apple ImageWriter? The original, not the II or LQ. #retroApple
#RetroApple peeps, do I have to do anything special when switching graphics cards on an AGP PowerMac G5? I have two cards of the exact same model (the Mac version), the original one is detected, the other is not. I don’t remember having to do anything when I managed a pool of these things but my […]
Fixed the internal drive on this bad boy. The belt was fine; cleaned the heads, rails (and applied sewing machine oil), and belt pulleys. So so very happy to have this working as it should!

I just published a new version of my first publicly released app, back in 1996, ResisMeasurer, for classic Mac OS (7.0 to 9.2.2, universal binary for 68K and PowerPC), and its source code!
This app calculates resistor values based on their ring colours, calculates series and parallel resistor […]
This page was actually really useful for matching old and new API names: web.mit.edu/macdev/Development/Docum... #retroApple
So… ported this from Think C/Symantec C++ to CodeWarrior 5. Fixed all the errors caused by the, huh, modernization of toolbox API names, and all the warnings related to unused variables. Built a universal binary for 68K and PowerPC. It's almost ready! 😁
That […]

Does anyone remember what “re-verifying format” actually meant in the context of formatting a floppy? Is it checking all sectors and marking the bad ones so the floppy can still be used? I used to know all this stuff. 😖 #RetroApple
The good news is I replaced the capacitor on the 145 floppy drive, and cleaned its heads, and it seems to be slowly coming back to life. I’m not entirely sure if the old capacitor was bad or not but it was gonna leak sooner or later, and it felt good to solder something, I hadn’t done it in a […]
Is there any mirror of Macintosh Garden for really old Macs with a very simple web site? I have the idea someone built it but can’t recall the URL. #RetroApple
