Clyde Drexler led the way with 33 points despite a sore knee that made him a game time decision. "You have to go for it," said Drexler. "The doctor cleared me to play and I wanted there and push it to the limit."
Terry Porter added 22 points while Jerome Kersey and Buck Williams each pulled down 10 rebounds. "The playoffs started tonight for us," said Porter. The win gave Portland a 52-22 record.
For the Utah tandem of Karl Malone and John Stockton, Malone scored 10 points, his lowest non-injury output in three years. Stockton, who is averaging a league leading 13 assists per game this season and has matched that average for the past five seasons, finished with 3 assists, his lowest output in four years. The loss was the worst for the Jazz against Portland since a 34 point loss in Feb. 1981.
