A poem in four parts. 

KINTSUGI: ON THE BREAKING OF SCARAMOUCHE     
i. mother's sin  
Against memory, I never stood a chance 
My Goddess, my Mother, my Maker 
Crafted me with grand plans 
But I was not what could save Her  

Violet gaze lay entranced on the past 
To old loss She still bitterly clung— 
The sister's role into which I was miscast 
Her heart had no room for a son  

A single teardrop spelled my judgment, my doom 
I was locked up out of sight, out of mind 
Another tool took my place while I rotted, entombed 
She left me alone, imprisoned, enshrined  

She denied me even a passing glance 
My Goddess, my Mother, my Maker 
Laid me to rest using both hands 
And became my first betrayer     

ii. second chance?  
I woke alone, from long hibernation 
"Mother" nowhere to be seen 
No note left behind and no explanation 
My first taste of betrayal's harsh sting  

Some humans stumbled upon my shrine 
Set me free and asked for my help 
I clung to this chance like a new lifeline 
To make a family for myself  

I tried my best to be useful, I did 
But it seemed that wasn't enough 
Left all alone, all on my own, amid 
A human's pitiful bluff  

For the second time since my formation 
I tasted betrayal's harsh sting 
A second glimpse at my damnation— 
Set to hang on my own heartstrings

An opportunity at last had come 
One more chance to prove my worth 
Beyond the prison they rescued me from  

I tried to fill the emptiness within 
With love, and with family, with fate 
I tried gentleness, again and again 
But from above, more reasons to hate  

Betrayed once more— they left me behind 
Allowed death to claim what's for me 
Like being left alone was just fate's design 
Like it's all preordained, meant to be  

I leapt headfirst three times since my birth 
Tried to mean something to someone 
Three times I was cursed, told I had no worth 
How can I undo what's been done?        

iv. devil's bargain  
The Devil appeared then and offered a win 
He said, "Our meeting's providential; you have such potential, 
how much can you take? Every time that you break 
you can get stronger in sin, it will show on your skin."  

He said, with no dispute, I've hardly touched the root 
Of my power. Uncontrolled, I'll be a sight to behold 
I will reign, absolute. I am more than false fruit 
The cracks in my soul sealed and anointed with gold  

The devil, with a grin, said I'm more than mannequin To avenge my heartache, on this we could shake 
And now to begin he'll show me how to win My fate 
I'll unmake, I just have to break and break and take  

Her knife buried deep, I will use it and keep 
Breaking and bending, my pain is unending 
These seeds sown I'll reap, no price is too steep 
My judgment impending, now I'll be ascending
