an image with a blue background. Along the bottom are photos of Maura Clarke, Ita Ford, Dorothy Kazel, and Jean Donovan (The Churchwomen of El Salvador).

Above their photos it has a quote from Maryknoll sister Ita Ford (1940-1980) which says “Am I willing to suffer with the people here, the suffering of the powerless, the feeling impotent? Can I say to my neighbors — I have no solutions to this situation; I don’t know the answers, but I will walk with you, search with you, be with you.”

Under the quote it says “On Dec 2, 1980, four women (three religious sisters and a lay missionary) were raped and murdered by government soldiers in El Salvador because of their work with the poor.”

I served as a Jesuit Volunteer in Los Angeles, when all the houses there were named for the 4 churchwomen. I think of them each Dec 2nd, the other FJVs who also served in LA, and the example of solidarity the women offer us.

It seems we may need this example now, more than ever. #Ruinedforlife
