Gestartet wird mit #s515 am #IMC2019:
Materiality of Death, I
relationship between material culture & death
Bei den Sessions 515, 615 & 715 handelt es sich gewissermaßen um die 'Partnersektionen' der @UniGraz (Romedio Schmitz-Esser) zu unserer Todes-Session #s727 @UniSalzburg.
Also, as rightly pointed out in the #EAA2018 #s515 final discussion: We should not overlook other materials! Only because timber structures aren‘t preserved in the same extent, doesn‘t mean monumental architecture is restricted to stone.
In his summary of (by the way really fruitful) session on 'story structures', #EAA2018 #s515, J. Thomas emphasizes the role of #monuments as places of #assembly - very directly as gathering places, but also in a very theoretical way, bringing together all kinds of approaches.
Continuing #EAA2018 #s515 w/ L. Larsson‘s "Stones as boundaries - stones as markers". Megalithic passages not only orchestrating an 'inside' (e.g. chamber) but as much an 'outside'. Much activity, installations etc. around megaliths as well. Keep in mind to have a look there too!
J. Müller presenting on behalf of J. P. Brozio on "Transformative Processes of Monuments" at #EAA2018 #s515 - linked to innovations (e.g. #Flintbek’s early evidence of wheel tracks in northern central Europe in) which, however, first used for ritual rather than economic purposes.
E.g. standing stones marking completion of #feasting series. Economic potency of social groups / individuals displayed by number of stones.
How to corporate this into archaeological models? Megalith building as possibility to create communal frame. #EAA2018 #s515
Monument-construction and social organisation: cooperation, feasting, prestige. Now starting a really interesting tour through ethnographic record with Maria Wunderlich on "#Megalith building in #Nagaland [India]" in #EAA2018 #s515.
Already a most fascinating start in #EAA2018‘s #s515: Anne Teather, @pre_historic, not only introducing prehistoric flint #mines as #monuments, but also #FlintMineArt! Little did I know ... Great conference-kick off. ;-)
