Eclipse (2025) A surreal image of a partial solar eclipse as seen over the Saint John River in Fredericton NB Canada. PARTIAL ECLIPSE A scrap of white through dense hedges her hair or blouse. Day or night when you pass the porch, she sits between two pillars of paperbacks. At her left hand those unread, at her right the pile mounts through summer until one slides off into the brown needles. The glum face of the cover might mean something like the birds mean more than you are sick of them, how they fly at the slightest noise, your lover who cannot keep his mind on you. Who are you fooling with this fiction? She is you, if anyone, since you made her up out of this morning of mere disappointment in him—which means "no point at all" except in the partial eclipse that drops hooks and horns from leaf shadows, the only spectacle you're supposed to look at.
