Phone or write to them, especially Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and City Councilmember Justin Brannan, who is running for citywide office as NYC comptroller. Last night, January 15, Brooklyn's Community Board 13's Land Use Committee voted NO on de-mapping public streets for "The Coney" casino! It's the first of many hearings. Thor Equities' horrendous renderings for their multi-block casino project with a hotel over 400 feet tall show a complete takeover of the amusement area. The developer seeks air rights to build sky bridges over public streets and a hotel more than twice the height permitted by existing zoning. It would overwhelm Coney Island USA, Luna Park, and Deno's Wonder Wheel Park and destroy numerous small businesses. Also, and this is crucial, the project would endanger public safety by increasing already insane levels of traffic congestion on the peninsula during the season, making it impossible for emergency vehicles to get through. #nocasino #coneyisland #landgrabbers #publichearing #saveconeyisland
