For anchor, I used aluminum foil, the chain I made using a hot glue gun. There are real shells & a real crab claw glued onto the canvas, & the green gravel is crushed eggshells.

The background texture was created by stretching a pair of fishnet stockings over the canvas. The dagger features his initials and the green jewelry was to tie in his favorite color, also the color of the heart chakra, green 💚

The tentacles (you'll see them again in other pieces) represent the stranglehold my exes had in my heart & how it kept me trapped in deep depression.

The bi-colored cosmos now occupies the entire canvas symbolizing the expansion of self. It's also not bleeding like the previous one, as I had done some healing by this point & was in a better place at the time.

Then I painted the heart over the sonnets in watercolor. I glued on the crow feather as additional reference to Shakespeare, known as the Upstart Crow. "A rose by any other name" is what the petals represent, from the romantic tragedy Romeo + Juliet.

I once asked him, if we were mushrooms, which would we be? He identified as a black trumpet, & I'm a morel, hence the placement of both next to eachother at the top. The amanita & the turkey tails also have prominent placements as his favorites.
