A drawing of myself as an adult, teen, and kid hypnotized to act like chickens. All 3 are perched on a sphere on top of a pole, which will be used as part of the foreground details when I come back to finish this piece later. I got into hypnosis at a young age after facing a phobia of hypnosis I had from watching The Jungle Book with my mother who has a severe phobia of snakes. I loved snakes back then, but her fear of the snake made me afraid of what he was doing, namely hypnotism. I didn’t want to be afraid of something I didn’t understand, so I borrowed my mom’s laptop in the middle of the night and started reading all about hypnosis and watching videos of hypnosis shows when I finally grew the nerve. They looked like they were having a lot of fun, even when they were told to dance, act like animals, and huff their own shoes as gas masks. I was utterly fascinated, and tried out my first hypnosis video the next night. I was still afraid, so I opened the transcript of the induction video and read the entire thing to make sure there wasn’t anything nefarious hidden within. Funnily enough, reading the induction may have put me in a light hypnotic state before I started the video, because I dropped fast and hard during it. I remember feeling like my body was floating, then waking up to find I was flopped over on my bed, cheek covered in drool. I watched a deepener video next, then finally a suggestion video that made me think I was a dog. It was incredibly fun to me, and I would watch fun hypnosis videos almost every night well into my adult years. As a teen, I felt less robotic while hypnotized, my personality more obvious while following a suggestion. Rather than blankly believing I was a chicken like when I was a kid, I believed it was a game all to myself. Like a reflex, I had to be the best chicken possible to have the most fun possible, so I ironically acted more chickenlike as a result. I’m much the same now, but alas, I have less time to be hypnotized.
