You know what? Multimedia art experience. This is only for you, my blind and vision impaired volk. A few dozen open-air hatcheries exist across [[Slough]], dealing in Amphibians. Such Amphibians are hilariously easy to farm; their eggs, laid in the thousands, care not for pollution or brackishness, while their adolescents are brutish cannibals, consuming their brethren without abandon, ensuring they grow up well-fed and without possibility of overpopulation. In adulthood, they exist as true omnivores, trawling around the shallow water-pits gorging themselves on commonplace waterborne parasites and mosquito larvae in the summer-springtime. While all technically the same species (often disputed), such amphibians grow into numerous phenotypes. There are the long-bodied, flowing, almost ethereal fish-like salamanders with mottled flesh and centipede-like tendrils and atrophied hindlimbs and forelimbs redeveloped back into pectoral fins; there are the stumpy, stockily-built toadesques with primeval, bony-plated thick skulls and translucent flesh revealing ribs and organs; and there are the armour-plated almost insectoid benthic creatures with leathery, tough skin which eventually develop into a tree-like sessile polypoid endlessly producing organelle zooplanktonic clones of itself. Such Amphibians act not only as important sources of sea-protein for the denizens of Slough, but also as raw material for bioengineering. Nervous systems harvested and placed into nutrient vats as up-and-coming rivals to traditional silicon computers; endocrine glands harvested and reformed into combat implants that regularly inject high dosages of painkillers and stimulants into the user; and even constructed into entirely nonmetallic disposable self-loading firearms designed to bypass metal detectors. The hatcheries are heavily-defended by private mercenary guards, fortified by layers of barbed wire, diamond-link fences, landmines, and guard towers. The canteens of such hatcheries are also s…
