Slash’s Snakepit – Beggars & Hangers On Als er één rockgitarist is die zijn belofte nooit heeft waargemaakt is het Slash. Een paar geweldige albums met Guns N’Roses, twee leuke albums met Slash’s Snakepit en twee onderschatte albums met Velvet Revolver en dat was het wel. Sindsdien lijkt de inspiratie ingeruild te zijn voor de blik op de bankrekening. Gelukkig heb ik die twee van Slash’s Snakepit ook in de kast staan. Met vooral de eerste, _It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere_ uit 1995, als favoriet. Met allerlei GN’R-mensen om Slash heen, zowel bij de muzikanten als in het technische gedeelte. De enigen die daar in principe niets mee te maken hadden waren bassist Mike Inez, die van Alice In Chains kwam, en zanger Eric Dover. Die laatste kon ik pas later plaatsen, toen ik Jellyfish ontdekte. Want ja, Dover zat in die band en in van alles wat later uit de resten van die band ontstond, zoals Imperial Drag en The Lickerish Quartet. Hoewel Dover ook geen misselijke gitarist is, nam hij alleen de leadzang voor zijn rekening. Wel schreef hij mee aan allerlei tracks, zoals ook aan “Beggars & Hangers On”. Pas vijf jaar later kwam er een tweede Slash’s Snakepit-album uit, _Ain’t Life Grand_. Met een compleet andere band, waaronder een compleet andere zanger, ene Rod Jackson, die met Slash’s Snakepit in zijn eerste én laatste band van naam zat.

Happy birthday to Slash, who was born in Stoke-on-Trent on 23rd July 1965.

He joined Guns N' Roses as their lead guitarist in 1985 and remained there until 1996 before rejoining them in 2016.

He's also had his own solo band, Slash's Snakepit (1994–2002)
