The Deadly Cost of Unplowed Sidewalks in Winter — Streetsblog USA A mother was killed and her toddler critically injured when an icy sidewalk forced them into the street — and into the path of a driver. Some say better policy could have prevented the tragedy.

"A mountain of research has shown that parents and caregivers are among those who suffer the most when cities fail to keep their sidewalks in good order, and that those caregivers are disproportionately women." #SnowbilityWR

The lack of municipal sidewalk clearing is ridiculous. We're literally sending people to an early grave over heart attacks and back injuries

This council has failed to deliver. Time to organize for elected officials who understand accessibility.

Cambridge city councillor Corey Kimpson agrees with Dixon.

“We have to be good neighbours and get out there as soon as possible to remove the snow, remove the ice and make sure that our sidewalks are free and clear for everyone,” said Kimpson.

“That goes for people with small children, people with mobility devices, people trying to get through with strollers and even people who are otherwise able to pass on the snow. We don’t want someone to slip and go down and break something.”

Sure. Or we could, you know, take year-round sidewalk accessibility as seriously as we take driving accessibility (i.e. roads), and demand that the city take responsibility for clearing sidewalks. #SnowbilityWR www.therecord.com/news/waterlo...
