3 Panel grayscale comic page; Panel one has various birthday cards overlaying each other. Panel two shows Romeo's face up close, looking confused and saying "What-". Panel 3 shows Carlos holding a clear plastic box that he just dumped cards out of, while Romeo is staring down at the table with all the cards on top. Romeo asks "What is all this?" Carlos responds "Your birthday cards..." and Romeo asks "Cards?" with emphasis.
6 panel black and white comic page. Panel one shows Carlos with his left arm reaching behind his head sheepishly. He says "I know I sent you money that Rosa would give you but I also bought and wrote in a card every year." Panel two shows Romeo's hand picking up one of the birthday cards, while Carlos says "I just never had the confidence to actually send them." Panel three shows a close side profile of Romeo as he looks down at the card silently, his eyes obscured. Panel 4 features a younger Romeo at a birthday party, while his Aunt places a piece of cake on a plate infront of him with her arm draped over the back of his chair. She stands to his right while another young boy stands to his left and smiles at the cake. Romeo sits in the middle, staring at the cake but not looking that excited. Panel 5 shows young Romeo turning his head to look at something, while the boy on his left is seen behind him leaning forward. Panel 6 features a closed double door with latticed windows.
A black and white comic page with 3 panels. Panel one shows young Romeo's knees from under the table where he sits, as his hands ball into fists and tremble as they sit on his thighs. Panel 2 shows current adult Romeo's head from behind, as he stares down at the pile of cards that now lay open infront of him, showing off multiple lines of writing in each. Rome says "God..." Panel 3 shows Romeo's face as he looks down at cards in his hands, his expression scrunched and grief-struck as his eyes fill with years. He says "Why didn't you just send them...?"
A black and white illustration. In the center of an off-white void, Carlos and Romeo embrace with their arms wrapped around each other. Above the image is written "end."
A sort of unfinished small comic I did for Romeo's bday this year (Oct 30). His dad and him had no communication for most of his childhood, for context.
