Macro image of a Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea Pendula’ (weeping purple beech) terminal bud in early leaf break. The bud scales are reddish-brown and beginning to separate, exposing emerging foliar tissue. Background shows a grassy garden with raised beds and distant trees in soft focus.
This little beech sat still for two years in the shade behind our shed. Moved it, replanted it (twice), finally gave it what it needed and now.. just look at those buds! It just needed a bit of sun, compost, and a second chance.
