The day after the storm the community came out to start the cleanup

Today is the tenth anniversary of the devastating #StormDesmond
Too much of the response has been only a defensive-reactive formation: adaptation which is not strategic, and may thus turn out to be fragilising, maladaptation.
Unless we adapt strategically, such disasters WILL repeat, and worse.
We have developed this #StormDesmond Case Study as part of our Key Stage 3 Weather and Climate learning resources for #Teachers and #Parents on @thefloodhub.bsky.social

💧Approaching the 10yr anniversary since #StormDesmond, it’s important to take time to remember how significant this #storm was
✏️Our #KS3 Weather & Climate lessons consists of 8 lessons to aid students learning about weather, climate, the factors which influence these & the impacts of #climatechange🌡️
Following #StormDesmond & #StormEva, We worked with this flood group in #Whalley, #Lancashire to address their #flood risk issues and help make their community more resilient to #flooding☔️

#Flood Group Case Study🤝
We worked with residents in #Carlisle who were affected by #StormDesmond. We helped them to develop a communal flood plan which incorporated their new #PFR scheme measures🔨

🌊 #StormDesmond impacted Cumbria from 5th Dec 2015.
⚡It caused devastating floods. The effects were significant: thousands of properties were inundated with floodwater, electricity disconnected communications, and roads and bridges were impassable or damaged.
#LowCrosby was particularly impacted.
📰 Today marks 10 years since the @metoffice.gov.uk named the first #storm, Storm Abigail.
Since then, there has been a total of 70 named storms, like #StormDesmond, #StormChristoph and #StormHenk.

We worked with Geography SW and the Environment Agency to produce to the Low Crosby #GCSE case study ➡️: thefloodhub.co.uk/low-crosby-g...
✏️It provides an introductory overview of the area & the effect of #StormDesmond.
✏️The factors that contribute to #flood risk
✏️The #flood risk management scheme
Check out our #KS3 #StormDesmond Extreme Weather case study lesson 💧📖.
It explores the causes of #flooding & why the impacts were severe in #Cumbria & #Lancashire. Students will analyse the effects on communities & infrastructure & evaluate the responses.
