Stray has a strong sense of morals and doing the right thing... but they would see the world burn before losing Gale. They have talked Gale down multiple times - if they're going to die they'll die defending Gale's value to them alive.

To be fair, loving Gale has been a strange rollercoaster for Stray. For his part, Gale isn't used to just being seen for who he is, not what he is. Stray was stubborn, though, and got through in the end.
