Honored to connect w/Evan Saitta @jwiemann.bsky.social & Holly Latta about the possibility of determining the sex of extinct animals from deep time (work presented at #SVP2023)! Thank you so much, Rose Pastore!

For #FossilFriday: gearing up to give my presentation tonight for the virtual component of #SVP2023!
Black kitty in an open suitcase with a stuffed toy
Zorro is thrilled that I brought him home a stuffed Dunkleosteus from #svp2023 to celebrate National Black Cat Day! (Plus, suitcases are actually boxes.) #nationalblackcatday
A group of happy scientists from the Angielczyk Lab after lab dinner
A group of paleontologists meeting Fiona the hippo for the first time
A polaroid of two paleontologists in front of a dinosaur mount
A group of paleontologists enjoying the Cincinnati Zoo
Had a great time talking about #Lystrosaurus at #SVP2023 !! So good to see everyone, and watch so many young scientists presenting on such cool work! 🧪🦴🦖
Trix the T. rex vs the JP jeep - who would win? Come to my talk at #SVP2023 to find out what my newest musculoskeletal (physics) simulations suggest. I'm on Saturday at 9:15
(Fair warning: I'm not actually going to animate the jeep in front of T. rex. Probably)

Fossil jaw in a museum display case
Here's a cast of the type lower jaw of the ground sloth Paramylodon harlani on display at Cincinnati's Museum of Natural History and Science. Original fossil discovered @ Big Bone Lick, Kentucky, later lost in a fire; only a few casts like this remain. #FossilFriday #internationalslothday #svp2023 🧪

Hi #svp2023! I figure I should make a post if I'm going to be telling folks where to find me--I'm sam, and my main contribution to paleontology is the ongoing construction of a raptor costume!
The mental peace of not travelling through US airports with the current climate has made the fomo of #svp2023 disappear.
If you are going to be at #SVP2023 come check out my talk this Friday afternoon 1:45pm! I'll be talking about some updates on my research on fossil and extant ray-finned fish neuroanatomy and evolution!
Leg bone of extinct mastodon standing upright on a small wooden table in a museum
For Fossil Friday: left femur of the extinct American mastodon, Mammut americanum, collected in 1739 (!) from the famed Big Bone Lick fossil locality in Kentucky, US. Specimen is currently on display at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris, France. #FossilFriday #BigBoneLick #SVP2023
In a little over a week, I’ll be opening the Romer session at #SVP2023 with a talk on the functional diversification of lumbar vertebrae in Paleogene mammals!
