#sydfest is done for another year for us but overnight the #oscarnoms arrive, and tomorrow afternoon I start six weeks' leave. So I'm leaving one high, but just jumping on another equal high.
LACRIMA was absolutely stunning. Incredibly layered, but seamlessly woven together. It knew exactly what to do with its form. I barely noticed it's running time, I was so rapt. An exquisite finale for #sydfest.
It is our final show of #sydfest tonight, and we're going all in with the 3-hour, no-interval LACRIMA.
MAMA DOES DERBY was great fun, even if it took a while to get to the fireworks factory. The sleep paralysis demon (Nathan) was the MVP. #sydfest
Jez and Sarah holding up a MAMA DOES DERBY sign in classic electric pink, in front of the stairs of the Druitt St entrance to the Sydney Town Hall
It's MAMA DOES DERBY time, i.e. the #sydfest show we saw in the program and immediately went "yessss!"
ROTHAR was the kind of inventive physical theatre that #sydfest lives by. The kids absolutely loved it. It warranted an immediate lights-up "that was great!" from the 9yo.
We've had an excellent run of #sydfest shows this weekend, and we're sure it will continue with ROTHAR.
Then tonight we went to Hurstville's premier independent funeral parlour for DEATH BY POWERPOINT, an at turns hilarious, thought-provoking and moving exploration of death from five queer artists. #sydfest
We had two #sydfest shows today, and we were uncharacteristically running latish for both of them, so I didn't announce either beforehand!
First we had THE BOGONG'S SONG, which was an absolutely beautiful show blending dance, puppetry and songs into a story of connecting with land.
There are still some tickets available for Saturday night.

Saw a performance of "Nowhere" today. Standing Ovation. So Brave. #SydneyFestival #SydFest
A very cleverly crafted show that took us on a journey through identity and history to land in a place where we can see our own power. #sydfest #nowhere
We are back at #sydfest tonight for NOWHERE, except that it's actually at the Sydney Theatre Company.
Today's #sydfest adventures see us in Parramatta for GARDEN OF SOUND with
the kids.
BURGERZ: an absolute triumph. A powerful work that managed to be both devastating and riotous.
Standing ovation from me (and most of tonight's audience!) It's going to be one of the highlights of #sydfest
A large screen showing the poster for BURGERZ, featuring Travis Alabanza wearing a burger-themed fascinator.
Tonight we're at Carriageworks for #sydfest show #2: BURGERZ.
DEAR SON: a joyful introspection of what Indigenous fatherhood can and should look like. It felt like it was moments away from genuine heart-wrenching power and didn't quite get there. It might be right in the sweet spot later in the season. #sydfest
Jez and Sarah looking like excited crazies about to enjoy the theatre
The stage set for DEAR SON, which is red sand and an outback picnic area with a sunset in the background.
It's #sydfest time! I will be more high volume over the next few weeks as @sjhfletcher.bsky.social and I enjoy the cultural buffet of our fair city.
Tonight, we're starting with DEAR SON at Belvoir.
souvenir, really think i only used it for those 3 days but it looks appropriately beat to shit #sydfest #chatham
Reminds me of another photo of you two at #Sydfest
Particular respect for him standing in solidarity with Branch Nebula, and the Palestinian people, in defiance of the #sydfest cowardice from earlier this month.
Dobby had one of the most singular albums of 2024 with WARRANGU; RIVER STORY. With the live performance, he turned it into something profound and beautiful. #sydfest
Final #sydfest show! @laituegonflable.bsky.social and I are kicking on from the Hottest 100 countdown and seeing Dobby for WARRANGU; RIVER STORY
