Their dynamic is a favorite of mine (rivals to lovers is hot; I'm not sorry), then I started shipping them through an absolutely wonderful RP with a fabulous writer who became a dear friend! Sylvain can watch him fall, watch his crimson blood spread in the snow, and walk away. "Escaped captive," he'd say. "Went bad." And that's all the funeral Lorenz would get. It'd be one less lead on von Riegan, but also one less jewel of the Alliance to hunt down. But Lorenz's wide eyes, his straining fingers, the feel of his wrists warm under Sylvain's skin--they've torn Sylvain open. And he can't kill while he's bleeding. All those other deaths had been with a dull heart and fogged vision, but Lorenz makes him see everything so sharply. He always has.
