I was so excited to find a small brown package in my mailbox yesterday afternoon. This very unassuming parcel held one of the biggest steps I’ve taken in the author world in a while. I jumped in my car, headed the rest of the way home, and all but ran into my office. The excitement I felt pulling that little paper tab!!
Inside was a proof copy of my first-ever published-by-me book. There were mistakes—I knew going in that would happen.
I decided I didn’t like the order of some of the pages. I added QR codes for the links, changed around the page headers, made sure there weren’t a bunch of extra blank pages, and learned (the hard way) that I needed Kit’s help to put the synopsis on the back cover. (For some reason, I just thought it would auto-populate… I have no idea why I believed that’s how this worked.) Oh—and there was a random page break after a paragraph, leaving 3/4 of the page totally blank…
Yeah. Lots to fiddle with. But I got it done.
Now I wait for the Zon to say yay or nay to actually selling the final version. Will it say yes? Did I do all the things right?
We’ll see. Until then—yay me for taking this step!
