Trio of images: A medieval family tree of King John, a drawing of the Herschel siblings studying astronomy, and a black and white photograph of Anna May Wong standing on a table. Text: We need public historians because they focus on helping people from all walks of life connect to the past, which in turn helps them understand why the world is how it is today. They are key resources for the public: separating truth from myth, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking, and making connections that show the past is not as distant as it sometimes seems. Through public historians, people can discover history in relatable ways with a solid, trustworthy foundation. Talk about humanities. Footnoting History.
This podcast is public history and we love creating it because everyone deserves access to understanding the past. #TalkAboutHumanities
We need more cultural studies scholars & historical linguists because understanding the history of language helps us better understand our contemporary world.

'Studying Midwestern archaeology can tell us about the vibrant and dynamic relationship between people and the landscape as it has unfolded over thousands of years here in the American Midwest. The more people who study the ancient history of the Midwest, and the more these scholars come from different backgrounds or utilize different perspectives, the more we bring to light all the stories preserved in the archaeological record.' - G. Thinking about the lovely @acls1919.bsky.social #TalkAboutHumanities campaign and I know I should be all rah rah but I sold too many $100 essays trying to make childcare payments and writing for free just can't be how we talk about humanities, unless we only care about R1 profs who can afford it.
Augustus brought autocracy to Rome & then used pro-mother rhetoric as cover for sweeping attacks on womenβs civic freedoms. He considered this legislation key to a new golden age & justification for empire. The Heritage Foundation & Trump are making the same moves today. Resist #talkabouthumanities
