Good Books

A great book for those interested in Japanese tattooing by Shige of Yellow Blaze Tattoo. Released in 2009, it contains over 350+ pages and is an excellent collection of Shige's tattoo work.
Definitely a good one for the library.

Good Books
Of Brigands and Bravery: Kuniyoshi's heroes of the Suikoden is a definite must have for the Tattoo library.
The Suikoden was enormously popular in Japan during the 19th century and their stories are the basis of many Japanese tattoo designs.

Good Books
The craft of tattooing has such a varied story, a craft practiced over much of the world.
Here are a few books that tell some of that story.
1. Filipino Tattoos
2. Spiritual Skin
3. Kalinga Tattoo
4. Drawing with Great Needles
Check your local library. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good Books
I got these books from Thomas Hooper around 2010ish.
Before geometric and mandala tattooing took off in the west, there was Thomas Hooper.
Tribal Sketchbook
Book of Lines
Book of Skulls
A great selection of patterns, geometric and mandala designs to inspire.

The "Encyclopedia of Tibetan Symbols and Motifs" by Robert Beer is a excellent book and reference to the rich symbolic art of Tibetan Buddhism.
The meaning for symbols and cultural history with extensive art and explanations.
A great book for the library.

The Art of Derek Riggs
I got this book in 2006 when Derek Riggs released this compilation of his work.
So much teenage Eddie drawings were inspired by his art.
If you're an Iron Maiden fan or just a fan of Derek's art this is a great addition to any library.

These are 2 of my favorite fantasy and science fiction art books. Whether it is tattooing or painting, I find a lot of inspiration and just a lot to be learned from the work of Frank Frazetta.
His art has inspired (directly/indirectly) a lot of fantasy art.

This is great book for aspiring, apprentices and new tattoo artists (and probably any tattoo artist).
I was given this by another artist when I was apprenticing.
No fluff, no filler, just battle-tested strategies and tactics that you can put to work right away.

My first pricey book purchases were sets of Horiyoshi III and Ozuma Kaname books 15 years ago.
This was the first, 108 Heros of the Suikoden by Horiyoshi III. Much of Japanese tattooing is based on these stories, definitely a must have. Out of print for education purposes.

When I started tattooing my mentor gave me a book and told me "When you start making some money, invest in building a book library."
I followed his advice and started to build. lol

These Sailor Jerry books have been great in understanding and inspiring American Traditional tattoo design. Much of the American traditional tattoos you see online were inspired by these books (even if the artist doesn't realize it).
