Oh dear, man with the worst of 70s tendencies is obsessed with finding a nude woman on a horse and ends up chasing her through the woods. The ending is a twist that even Orson Welles Great Mysteries would tut at. #TheNewAvengers Target location is seen!

There's something so brilliant about having the confidence to not bother with a "first" episode.... We don't get the traditional sort of "here's how the three meet up", we just accept that Purdey and Gambit work with Steed as the current team and that's that.

My absolute favourite of the series with a focus on Steed and his past. Instead of yet another old friend being killed, the old friend wants him to die. Lots of nods to the past complete with Cathy, Emma and Tara files.

2) Target!
A deserved fan favourite with lots of well known actors. I'll still snigger at an agent called Dick Palmer though. Action and plot come together and Steed once again crosses a target range with a 100% score despite being full of venom!

3) The Last of the Cybernauts...??
Avengers shock, continuity that's mostly accurate. Fine finale to unplanned trilogy. Shame its not Benson who came out of prison. Some old tropes but done well for the 70s & nostalgia for the past, a theme in TNA.

4) Sleeper
Virtually all location, which is probably why Gnaws is so studio based, this is a terrific episode if you don't think about the geography too much. Purdey gets the best action of the three in fab pyjamas.

5) House of Cards
Onto my top 5 and Peter Jeffrey activating sleeper agents to grab back a defector. Lots of action and a decent plot plus that brilliant scene with the photos of past Avengers ladies. Nice to see Annette Andre too. 1/2

6) The Eagle's Nest
Those 70s favourites, Nazis and dodgy British islands meet to relaunch The Avengers with a hint of The Town of No Return. A very confident start to the series but I'll never believe Steed bought that Rover, company car maybe?

7) The Tale of the Big Why
Excellent, er, tale in hot summer where it takes most of episode to unravel mystery rather than the audience being ahead. All regulars have some fun lines, Steed's eccentricity to the fore ๐๐ป. Character called Turner again?

8) Hostage
Heavily influenced by Tara's Who Was That Man I Saw You With?, this is better than other Steed frame up episodes and it leads to a Gambit/Steed showdown. Knowing Steed of old from the 1960s, it's no surprise that he never fights fairly.
