The cover on the second read hurts.
I wonder if Whitehead had in mind The Invisible Man when he wrote this book. The brutality and spectacle of the Griff chapters seem so familiar, but without the caustic humor present with Ellison.
Good book, but hard to recommend - as it's unsparingly bleak.

#TheNickelBoys by #ColsonWhitehead is an amazing read. I was hesitant to read it only because I know the horrible racist history of the Dozier School, but it's a beautifully written story, emotional, heartbreaking yet inspiring and, ultimately, hopeful. Looking forward to the film.
